Installed in on my Galaxy S2, It always disconnects when the phone is locked, can't go around this. Call quality is pretty bad. Calling is so much easier with the phone itself, figures.

Tried Vonage's version, no 911, and no Caller ID# on whoever I call. People don't trust unkown numbers, lol. Call quality is also bad on this too.

Give me something that gives me the ability to increase the quality, and choose a number for me to set as a caller ID for people that I call. I'm interested in using this for outgoing calls.

I have no issue paying a premium either, these are pretty useless in their current state, or free version.

Both were uninstalled.

.
I presume you are referring to Dell Voice for this comment?

I am using a Wind Nexus S (running ICS) and do not notice the disconnect issue when I lock the screen. It does have to reconnect when transitioning from 3G to WiFi, but I don't think that is unexpected.

So far the call quality is pretty good and seems to work well. Time will tell though as more and more people sign up and traffic levels increase.

I have noticed it sometimes disconnects, but not because it's locked. I tried leaving my phone on the table for a while. Sometimes it disconnected, other time it didn't. One other thing I noticed is that it wanted to use Bluetooth, even though it's configured to not use it. A call came in this morning when I was listening to music on my phone. It was sitting in the dock and connected via Bluetooth to a stereo receiver. I had to walk to the other end of my condo, before it let go of Bluetooth. I have also noticed some issues with call quality. Hopefully, it just needs a bit of work.

Well to get this back on topic. I setup Dell Voice on my iPhone on the weekend. I think the call quality is very good. I have tried this on 3G and wifi/ So far I am liking this better than Skype for voice calls. With Dell Voice you get a free phone number. It is also free to call mobile and landline phones, in the specific cities and towns that are part of Dell's calling areas. With Skype it is only free to call other Skype users, the rest you have to pay money for.

Apparently, you may lose your phone number, if you don't use Dell Voice for more than 90 days.

Losing your number after 90 days of non-use seems fair to me. Frees up numbers that people get and not use. Besides it is not hard to use this once every 3 months.

Please remember folks that this thread is for discussion of Dell Voice only. Other VOIP providers for Android can be discussed here. Future off-topic posts here may be removed without notice.

Default same as budphone.ca?

Just so you know, this isn't really an new service, I think the same thing has been running for awhile with the same back end, but a differently branded app in the front, http://www.budphone.ca/

It appears to be the same with just a differently branded app and desktop application.

The Budphone service users your existing telephone to make calls, ie, using up airtime.

The Dell Voice app is using your data connection

You might want to check that, I haven't tried both, but both have a desktop app, and a desktop app won't use airtime for sure.

The desktop app would act in the same way, but the smartphone app is what I describe in the previous post.

I tried calling my home number and when I pressed the buttons, I could hear the touch tones.

Agree. No problem with tones working normally here. Again, this is using DellVoice on iOS.

skifan:

Thanks for the heads-up. I've been looking for something like this. Appears to be that they are doing a test-run in Canada before they roll it out elsewhere....
