It sounds to me like they'll need to change the guide update process such that any recordings in progress or about to start use the old guide information instead of the updated version. So you'd have to cache that info.
It's not a simple thing to implement, but it's far from impossible. |

I think MTS in Winnipeg does the schedule update at 6 AM and I haven't seen this problem. I think any recording in progress continues normally. I wonder if Aliant is doing something a little different than the other telcos. |

Well, at least with this common info I can be a little more helpful when talking to tech support...although the last time we talked to them they suggested taking a look at our hardware again! Maybe I'll leave them alone so they can dedicate resources to a software fix...
Will keep you posted on developments. |

If this is the cause of the problem then it can be fixed. Finding the cause is usually 99% of finding the solution.

Here's an idea: Have the update check to see if there is something scheduled to record at that time and if not, then do the update. If there is something scheduled, wait until the show is over and go on from there.
I'm sure no one records everything in 24 hour time.

Another idea, until they can find a fix:
Schedule the update for 4 am. This is outside of the prime time of all local and time-shift stations. Its still bound to affect someone, but far fewer. |

Too bad we aren't running the show. These are good ideas that we have. Betcha if they read this and apply them, we won't get the credit for it.

Sorry to chime in prematurely (not due to have FibreOp installed for a few weeks) but it sounds like if they scheduled the updates to start say 3 or 4 mins BEFORE the end of the hour, this wouldn't be such a big deal. In other words, it wouldn't be so bad if you retained the ability to fast forward right up until say 3 2 or 3 minutes before the credits roll. My $0.02.

Just update in the morning at 6:00 am. Nobody records there unless it's from a movie channel or something.

you know i don't know why i never thought about this before but i wonder if they would be able to add an exception to the update. such as when it tries to update the guide at a certain time it checks to see if the PVR has anything scheduled or recording at the time it is trying to update and if so suspend the update until the recording(s) are finished. that's how my Bell TV PVR worked with updates

Any thoughts on this?
For the 3rd consecutive time, (after never having this problem before) our Jays series recording which is set to stop recording "3 hours after" the scheduled end time has resulted in a total recording of only (and exactly) 3 hours and 34 minutes. (although this 3rd time it was 3:33) Fortunately, the games haven't gone that long recently and we haven't missed anything. But, we've always recorded our baseball games with as much buffer on the end as possible, just in case of extra innings. Why exactly 3 hrs and 33 or 34 minutes every time? These games have started weeknights at 11pm local time (10 pm eastern time) and in the guide, typically 3 hours is allocated for a baseball game. That means that whatever's going on is happening at 2:33 a.m. Atlantic or 1:33 a.m. Eastern, in case the time is important. The PVR is practically empty. There's exactly one saved 2 hr recording, and each day we record (then promptly watch within 24 hrs) one of these games and an hour-long Baseball Central. That's it. The only things we can think of are: 1. There's something weird going on at 2:33 a.m. that stops the recording, consistently, every weeknight. 2. There's something weird about the guide/recording information on Sportsnet One (since games are usually on SNET-E or SNET-O, but the Olympics have pushed games to SNET-1). 3. There's something about the Olympics that's messing up guide information. We'll know more after the weekend when there will be daytime games, so recordings will not go through the 2:33 a.m. mark. We'll also try recording any random show during the day with the 3 hours after buffer and see what happens there. Anyone have any ideas as to what might be happening? UPDATED TO ADD: seems like this is related to the 2:00 a.m. recording time issue from another thread. Our recording is for 11:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m. but set to stop 3 hrs later. I'm guessing the software is treating this extra 3 hours starting at 2:00 a.m. as the same thing as starting a recording at 2:00 a.m. Last edited by Dr.Dave; 2012-08-02 at 01:51 PM. Bump.
This seems to be related to what we're currently experiencing. I notice the last post in this thread was in April, though and no real conclusion. Has anything happened on this front, or are people still having trouble at 2:30 a.m.? Since we're recording live sporting events (Jays on the west coast), we don't really have an option to record the show at a different time to get around this problem.
