I have to laugh at the fact that CTV strives to censor US commercials from Canadians, only to show them CTV commercials about US television shows. Not one CTV original program was advertised, and most of the Canadian advertisers like Bud Canada had American counterparts, so why not just air the US commercials? They're selling the same damn product.

NBC was the game's American broadcaster. CTV was not advertising NBC shows. They were advertising shows that they've bought the rights to, NBC or otherwise.

As to why not air American commercials for identical products, you are aware that that's not CTV's call? They show whatever the advertisers send them.

That's just it, NeilN...Canadian TV networks should not make any offers to U.S. TV producers and networks for ANY programming...meaning, yeah....no more American Idol on CTV, no more Simpsons on Global, or any other U.S. TV shows on any Canadian TV channel....bring the proper U.S. channels here, break all the TV agreements currently in place with Canadian TV channels airing U.S. TV shows, open the border for the advertising industry here, and put the Canadian TV channels in their place....Canadian programming only.

And if people at the networks lost their jobs, too bad for then for being horribly manipulative people only out for an easy buck.

But when they call it "CTV's Program Name", it insinuates that they had a hand in producing it.

I don't want to take this thread off-topic (I feel its headed that way), but why exactly shouldn't Canadian nets be able to buy US-produced shows, just as every other country in the world does? CTV has every right to broadcast a show here, just as ITV does in Britain, 7 does in Australia etc.

It's pretty self-centred to not care about people losing their jobs. Many in the television business are great people and have virtually nothing to do with programming decisions. These are the type of people who would lose their jobs. The studios, the advertisers and the networks all prefer the current formula over one similar to what RaginRonic suggested. So, what would be the point of changing it?

As for the ads, the M&M one was great. I missed the GM Mayan one somehow. If anyone has a link to You Tube or anything, I'd love to see it.

I don't think what we are able to see or not see should be determined by where on the planet we are situated.

That irritates me too but the insinuation you state does not hold up. There are plenty of things called Company A's Pregame Show or The Company B Half Time Report when all Company A/B did was fork over some cash.

Bottom line: CTV is doing what broadcasters all over the world are doing. In the U.K. the Super Bowl is being broadcast by Sky Sports 1 and BBC1. You can bet they won't be showing American commercials. What you see and don't see are dictated entirely by business interests. That's why you won't see the national channel of Lithuania here even if it was offered for free.

Mods: Please split if this is too OT.

Ok, was not aware of that, our house went nuts when that happened. But late cuts are still bad arent they?

Maybe next year the canadian commercials will finally be all HD.....

Thumbs down Samsung Commercial

Anyone see that Samsung commercial where they make fun of people standing in line to by Apple products?

Why would they think this is remotely a good strategy? Insult the people you want to convince to buy your product. I may not be a marketing genius but this would have the opposite impact on me... if I didn't buy Apple I certainly wouldn't buy Samsong!

Maybe someone should have told them people were standing in line because they believed Apple had a superior product - not because Apple had made fun of them for buying a Samsung product.

How can you say the cutaway was late when the commentators were talking about how the injury happened during a slow motion replay? It was very early.

The Samsung commercial was BANG ON. Personally, I wouldn't lineup for any product. If you're lining up for a product you have already drank the Kool-Aid and there is no hope for conversion.

There was no mention of Apple, but we thought it which is the heart of the message.

Making fun of these people reminds me of the early days of the internet when people made fun of AOL users.

So james99, are they targetting the non-apple fans then? Fighting for the rest of the pie?

Based on the numbers a ton of people have "drank the kool-aid" - wouldn't you want to make an ad that makes your product attractive to them instead of alienating them?

Like I said, I'm no marketing genius but I'd like to think I do have at least a little common sense.

apple did the same type of ad back in the days when everyone was buying into PC's calling them zombies/idiots/ill informed/nerds with their mac vs PC ads.
