I believe I got a firmware update Sunday night. Box was off in the morning.... anyways all of my pvr recordings are gone! Nothing on box or Rogers PVR Extender external drive.
I assume there's no recovery.... Rogers had me do 3 reboots and nothing... CSR was clueless p.s. box is slower now as well on channel changes/input of numbers/guide response

Ridiculous, luckily for me my recordings are all in tact. Recordings being erased with upgrades seems to be a trend around here. What I don't get is how Rogers/Cisco felt this update was ready. The problems are so obvious that I think they would see this is not ready within 30 seconds of testing.
Also not crazy about the PVR list. I don't care to see what time the show was originally recorded and the old interface showed me how long the program is in the info bar at the bottom. Also, I regularly review what series I have scheduled to record by date and under the old system it was very easy to see as it would have a date header and then the program would be listed underneath and would be indented. Now everything is displayed in one row and my eyes have to scan across to screen to see the date. I called into tech support today so I could give them feedback. Rep told me it would be forwarded to the engineering department. Don't know whether that will happen or not, but at least I tried. I wouldn't blame the CSRs though, they can't fix your problem because there is technically nothing wrong, its just a poorly designed product and there's nothing they can do from their end to fix it. |

Can anyone confirm if the visual call ID is fixed in this latest update? I have yet to receive the update, but the initial feedback here does not seem to good. Eek.

OK, what a ride. My friend got the update Saturday, lost all his recordings. I got the update as well Saturday. All my recordings are intact. The new recorded list......MEH. I like that it is much larger, but I would prefer different info then what they show right now.
So far, on my PVR box, no control or speed issues. Even on demand is still as snappy as before. Wish I could say the same for my regular HD box in the bedroom. When watching some HD channels, I am experiencing stuttering and freezing of the picture and audio. At first, I thought it was just the one channel I was watching. However, it did it on several. Of course, I cannot say if its software related to the new firmware update, or Rogers just had a small issue in the area. Playback of recordings using the WHPVR system has so far been ok for me. I have not yet noticed any lags, or playback issues. Mind you, I have only watched two or three programs over the WHPVR network. OnDemand is a little slower on my HD box than my PVR. I think. It could just be my perception. However, seems others have commented on the same issue, so I suspect I am right. I did have some input lag and channel issues on both boxes Sunday morning. I powered down each box for about five minutes, and restarted. That seemed to solve most of my issues. I have yet to verify that all my scheduled recordings are still setup properly. However, True Blood recorded just fine Sunday, so I assume they are. I really hope Rogers starts screaming at Cisco. When the fall tv season starts, I don't need to lose recordings, or deal with a system that cannot do the job. Bad enough I have to download about 20 shows for my friend so he can watch what was recorded on his box.

I noticed my 8642PVR lights were on this morning (I set them to off when the unit is off), meaning I just got an update last night. I didn't turn on the TV yet today ... wonder what I'll find tonight? |

I noticed that too this morning in our bedroom box but there was no update applied. This seems to happen quite often, a system reboot in the middle of the night for no reason. We also have the clock set to off when powered down. That clock is very bright, may have to invest in some tinted tape.

Speedy: its both, Rogers and Cisco. However, the big stuff is done by Cisco and their partners if I remember correctly. That might have changed. Rogers engineers might tinker with the code for small fixes, but I highly doubt they have the experts to do the big stuff. Not to mention, most of the firmware is sent across multiple cable co's.

In that case, does this mean are wrong in slagging Rogers so much?
We should apply lots of blame towards Cisco as well? All I know is that our $$$ goes to Rogers, so they really should get a rein on this ... |

Is it still possible to revert back to the old firmware? I'm getting tired of my wife complaining about the crappy new guide and how slow the box is on a daily basis...sigh...

Yes it is, but if you have an 8642, you'll lose all your recordings if you roll back

According to the website, no. I think this is just another update to get ready for it.
