Thanks for the reply. Sounds good!

Default Galaxy music channels

Have been using the new IPG for a couple weeks now, generally pleased, but some polish still needs to be rubbed on this puppy. A few updates have come out lately which is nice, at least they seem to have to capability to push out frequent updates instead of 'monster releases by committee'...

Anyway, right now the galaxy music channels do not display the artist and song title like they used to (when selecting info).

Emailed Rogers support... their response:

We are currently working on resolving the issue with the Galaxy channels and hope to have it fixed very soon, I apologize as at this time I do not have a specific date to provide.

^ I find it a refreshing breath of fresh air (in Rogers terms, relatively speaking) that a full roll-out of the firmware has apparently been put on hold and that they're issuing lots of 'fixes' to customers who have already been upgraded. I'm in no rush to get it and am happy to wait until the all the major bugs have been ironed out. They could save themselves a lot of aggro if they did small-scale testing like this with (related & unrelated) launches in the future..

One other "Have they fixed this bug yet?" question:
On my still-on-old-firmware 8642HD, if I hit 'List' and then try to 'Play from the beginning" a scheduled recording that has only just begun (ie: is just 1 to about 15 secs old), instead of playback starting I just get a black screen.

If, while on the black screen, I hit "Play from the beginning" again a few seconds later (but still within 10-15 seconds of the beginning of the show), it doesn't correct the situation. My work-around is to change the channel and then hit 'List' and 'Play from the beginning' again.

I wouldn't say the roll out has been put on hold, considering they are advertising and pushing Nextbox quite aggressively. Instead of just forcing customers on the upgrade they're giving people the option to opt in or out and I think it will stay that way for a while. Even if Nextbox was perfect, there are going to be those who aren't as tech savvy who will want the old UI as that's what they've grown accustomed to.

Just tried out what you described and it works perfectly fine on the new firmware, no black screen.

I unfortunately cannot update my prior posts with the tips and issues. Looks like I only have a small window to make changes after I posted. I will figure out what to do next.... I really wanted to keep that up to date.

viper359. If you copy the contents from post 773, make the changes you want and then PM the revised post to me, I'll insert the new contents into post 773. However, please make it as easy as possible for me to do. Also, activate your PMing option so we can do this in the background.

The other option would be for you to copy post 773, make the changes and post a new post in this thread (having the changes highlighted in italics or similar would be nice). I would then simply change the link in post 1. I believe you only have 24 hours to edit posts, perhaps less.

Another problem is that there is no longer a 'skip to end' option in recorded shows. That along with the lack of 15 minutes jumps using the page + & - means that if I want to see if my show was cut off at the end I have to FF through the entire show to check it.

One more - you can no longer override the output format of the PVR when using HDMI. It stays (I believe) at 1080i)

Thanks, 57, that's the one I was asking about in another 8642 thread. I liked it on the 8300HD where HD would output at 1080i and SD would output at 480i and the TV would switch to FULL or STRETCH accordingly.

I also liked having the option to save shows for a set period of time - like 7 or 14 days - I don't think I've seen this in the new UI, but I haven't looked too hard.

Thanks again for the confirmation of the old bug now fixed. As for "on hold" for existing 8642HD customers, I'd say it is -- we all (?) got something in the mail in January from Rogers saying that our guide would be updated "between January 29 and February 15, 2012". I've had no communication from Rogers since to inform me that it hasn't happened, that it's delayed, that it's got a new expected rollout date-period.

Is there a way to stop my PVR from updating at 2am every day? Or has anyone heard if Rogers is looking to fix this?

Another issue has popped up today. It's actually the 3rd time it's happened since I received the update just over a month ago...

The replay button (the one that jumps back approx 5 seconds) suddenly jumps back 5 minutes with each press.

Generally how I use the feature is while fast forwarding through a commercial, when I see the show appear again, I press the replay button 2 or 3 times to get back to the end of the commercial break (depending on how far into the show I let it advance).

So each time it's happened, I was fast forwarding at the time, and suddenly found myself 10-15 minutes back in the show. A reboot seems to fix it and it's very sporadic. Generally it works just fine.

I'm using a Harmony One remote, although it shouldn't really make a difference.

Is that actually considered a bug? Do the terminals manually search for updates or are they pushed by the headend?

It is most definitely a bug, as it disrupts my watching of anything that happens to be at 2am. Instead of rebooting at 2am, presumably for updates, it should wait until it is not being used, i.e. turned off for at least 10 minutes, or display a message allowing the user to delay the update.
