does anyone else find that the rear audio channels on TSN are very faint, if not completely unpresent? when I watched the practice session on speed you could clearly hear audio from the rear, especially with the cockpit cam. for tsn it's like everything comes from the centre channel.

Default TSN Coverage Sucks

I have been watching F1 racing forever. Watching it on TSN is unbearable the commercial breaks always seem to be at the wrong time. Like this morning two passes were completed while they decided to show us commercials.

If that's not enough they constantly sign off when the racers are commenting about the race.

If you do not want cover the event properly please let Speed channel handle it for you. They do a fantastic job, including interviews with the drivers and tons more.

TSN You Suck on Racing !!!!!!!!

Interesting race. Four races and four different winners.

I am not entirely sure that I like the fact that tires are playing such a big role in the races. Kimi has now shown, that a top team could actually purposely not make the top ten in qualifying and use their extra tires to their advantage. I think Vettel was managing his fuel more than anything else when he was caught while trying to squeeze out all he could out of his tires before the last pit. But a faster pit stop by Renault could have cost Red Bull the lead and it would have been very difficult to pass Kimi with a fresh set of tires.

Record and/or watch the Speed coverage later in the day then. I have done this for the past couple of races (in addition to watching the TSN coverage to see what I "miss") and have found that Speed has actually been worse for commercial breaks. Last week for example TSN went a very long time at the start of the race before their first commercial, while the first Speed commercial missed a fair bit of action. Speed does have the "grid walk", but after watching a few of those segments, I don't really find them very interesting any more.

From a driver commentator standpoint, TSN is better (Coulthard and previously Brundle), while Matchett provides better technical coverage - that's why I usually watch F1 Debrief. Hobbs is almost useless.

This week TSN went side-by-side for the commercials, so at least you could see the passing. (I have not yet looked at Speed to see what they did today).

Each person has their preferences, however, just because you don't like their coverage doesn't mean that TSN sucks, just that you don't like it.

If you wish "more", there are lots of F1 websites and also F1 Debrief and Speedcenter (on Speed)

I do not believe they have cut off the post-race interviews this year, except when they get to "your own language" segment.

Speed Channel edits the race before it broadcasts it. Cuts out any boring material which is lots in F1 racing. So you do not miss any important part of the race!

TSN some how manages to cut to commercials just as passes occur or important commentator is spoken. Just terrible timing the producer is doing a brutal job.

F1 is a second thought for TSN they are not a dedicated channel for racing & cars...

Speed shows the race live, so I'm not sure how they could pre-edit anything. They take more, and longer, commercial breaks than TSN.

As for TSN, F1 wouldn't make them any money if they didn't take ad breaks. Since they are using BBC's coverage (which has no ads), there is no really good time to take them. But, they are usually shorter and occur less often than Speed. TSN, RDS and Speed are all taking the same chance of something happening when they take breaks.

Sky Sports F1, for example, can afford to not show ads during the race because it is essentially a premium service. Much like Sportsnet World is here.

Also, as 57 said, TSN and RDS go side-by-side. Speed doesn't. Speed's commentators aren't as good (not to mention they aren't at the track). I've really grown to like Coulthard. Even more so than Martin Brundle, who I think feels he knows more than everyone else. Ben Edwards was a bit hyper in Melbourne, but he has settled in nicely.

I don't really have any complaints with TSN's coverage. Usually I just find a stream of BBC's or Sky's pre-race show online, then switch over to TSN when they come on. Then switch back to online if I want to see any more post-race commentary. Not a huge bother really, IMO at least.

That's not true. Speed broadcasts their races live. The re-broadcasts shown later are the same as their live broadcast. And they have more commercial breaks then TSN!

TSN doesn't have to put the ads in. They are capable. They show soccer without commercial breaks just fine.

Do you expect the folk at TSN to have somehow have the psychic ability to be able to predict when a pass is about to occur and/or when a commentator is about to enlighten us with analysis and/or when a safety car is going to come out?

Soccer has ads at halftime. It's not like TSN is the only F1 broadcaster that shows ads. So does Speed, RDS, ITV (when they had rights) and many others I'm sure. The main reason Sky doesn't is because nobody would watch if they had ads and BBC didn't.

Yes, I noticed this too. Funny story, I actually realized that this week and my wife was asking what I was doing with my ears pressed against the rear speakers. :0 She should be used to the weirdness by now.......

But ya, barely heard anything.

They need to switch their audio commentary feed from BBC to Sky. David Croft alongside Martin Brundle does a great job is lot better than dumbdown commentary from Jonathan Legard and David Coulthard. I really find Legard's random shouting is just annoying.

Its not Jonathan Legard, it is Ben Edwards. As much as I like Croft, I prefer Coulthard to Brundle personally.

So, again, a very close Q2. This strategy of saving tires in Q3 has me wondering if Michael Schumacher has a point with his "raw eggs" comments regarding the tires.
