Default Official 2012 F1 Discussions Thread.

This will be the official 2012 F1 discussion thread.

Here's a summary of what's typically airing for F1 during the typical race week:

Speed for Friday Practice

TSN for Saturday Qualifying

Speed for F1 Debrief of the previous race, usually sometime Saturday or Sunday of race weekend.

TSN for the race on Sunday

Speed often, but not always, carries the race tape-delayed and it sometimes is allowed to air later on Sunday, or later in the week, but record TSN Sunday to get the race live. Speed sometimes also airs Qualifying delayed.

TSN or TSN2 sometimes airs the race tape-delayed later Sunday - I often record this in case the original were to go long or have issues.

Lastly, on Speed - The Speed Report (Sunday evening around 7PM), which covers various motorsports for the week in an hour.

The Speed Qualifying and Live Race are blacked out because TSN have exclusive rights for those in Canada.

TSN F1 Schedule - Click on the top left of the page for exact schedules as the race draws near.

For 2012, F1 should be in HD, same as 2011. Fox often airs a couple of races mid-season. Canada and US GPs may air on CTV/2

2011 Thread: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=134519

Tips I always add 2 hours to a race recording, in case of rain delays, etc. I always set the PVR to record the Speed Replay later in the day or week, just in case.

The F1 schedule on TSN's website still lists 2011 races (big surprise). I am very interested in finding how TSN is going to deal with the split coverage on the BBC and Sky in 2012. Anyone heard any news?

I haven't; however, both Sky and BBC will have commentators on-site commentating live on every race. I'd guess TSN will choose one or the other. Probably Sky if I had to guess.

Rubens to be replaced at Williams by Senna.

Hope Rubens gets a seat but I doubt it now.

Yeah, it sucks to go out that way. Too bad he didn't see the writing on the wall and use the Brazilian GP as a fond 'farewell' race in his hometown. There wouldn't have been a dry eye in the house.

ps: does Sky have commercial breaks?

Like BBC, race coverage on Sky will be commercial free.

But don't worry we will still get commercial breaks on TSN just when it gets interesting, as always.

Did ITV have commercial breaks when they had F1?

Yes. ITV coverage was more in-depth overall than previous BBC coverage over several decades but people in Britain were so unused to commercials during the actual race itself that ITV is, to this day, deeply hated by British F1 fans.

I read TSN 2012 F1 schedule, and it has all the qualifying and all the races except for Grand Prix du Canada. What gives? Is the race going to be on CTV?

Can't remember - either CTV, CBC or Global. It's also usually on Fox.

TSN has exclusive rights, so it can't be on CBC or Global. It has aired on TSN for the past 8-10 years. Before that it was on CTV. TSN is starting a new contract cycle this year, so it is possible that the FIA requested the race airs on CTV again now.

Here is what I've figured out:

-TSN has EURO 2012 (Spain vs. Italy at noon ET and Ireland vs. Croatia at 2:45pm ET).
-TSN2 has NASCAR at 2:30pm ET (this race actually begins at 1pm ET and is joined in progress)
-The Canadian Grand Prix is scheduled for 2pm ET.
-TSN tells me they are currently working on finalizing their schedule and "...will know where and what time our coverage of the Canadian Grand Prix will start in the coming weeks."

It seems that they might have to air the race on CTV. Either that or they are trying to get the start time moved back to noon ET, which would allow them to move the first soccer game to TSN2. I guess we will find out soon enough.

They also have not made a decision on BBC or Sky commentary yet.
