You are right, just thought about it, and I have 30% off promo's on my internet, cable and home phone. Plus 1 free hd pvr, and two free Hd boxes, plus free router, and no sys access fee.
So for me, the packages would actually cost me more.

My 4642HD has locked up a few times in the past couple weeks. Last night I came upstairs and the front screen was blank except for the Home icon. It was unresponsive... had to plug it out and then back in. It took quite a while to come alive and the 'rotating circle' was on for a long time. I assume this is when it is searching for WH network? Could this be a result of degraded cabling or the 2 boxes having splitters in between them and not being on same splitter? Or do you think the 4642HD is a lemon? This will be a huge pain if the box is defective and you cannot simply exchange it at a store and need to schedule a truck roll.

I don't buy this schedule a truck to roll crap. I don't care what a tech on here says. Once them system is working, removing a box and replacing it with another should involve NOTHING MORE than a telephone call to Rogers. Anything else is just pure bull. The tech doesn't do anything special. He plugs it in, hooks it up. Voila. Les Box.

I’m currently with Bell and I considering switching over to Rogers and getting a NextBox 2.0 set up/package (I’m tired of waiting for Bell to roll out Fibe TV in Ottawa).
However, one of our favourite features of our current system (we currently have a Bell 9200 HD PVR ) is having access to picture-in-picture. By making use of PIP Swap, we can switch between shows without any lag (since we aren’t changing the channel) and more importantly, both shows get ‘buffered’ (? - sorry if that isn’t the right term) so we have access to one-hour of rewinding on either channel in case we missed anything important (which is very useful when trying to watch two footballs games at the same time). So my question is does the box I would be getting as a part of the NextBox package offer picture-in-picture and if so, how is it implemented (i.e. would we be able to use it the same way we use our Bell 9200 HD PVR)? Thanks! |

I've used the picture in picture swap and rewind as you've described. The recent software update also has the same PiP and swap (plus an even better PoP option).
That being said, I haven't actually tried rewinding both windows since the new software update... but there's really no reason it shouldn't still work. Someone may want to chime in and confirm though.

Just tried it, it only keeps a buffer of the "main" feed. Also when swapping windows there is a 2-3 second lag.

If you take the nextbox package, you will lose any better choice bundle discount for cable and internet. Do the numbers over the long run.

Been reading all the posts to learn about WHPVR install. I booked a tech for Monday March 26. I live in a condo with three risers servicing my unit. He had no idea what he was doing. Installed a few Mocko filters in the wrong places. Left. Called CS after the 48 hour window, they confirmed the codes were appearing on their system and they dispatched another tech Thursday who corrected some of the first guy's errors and made his own. He realized he had to enter the cable room and network or connect the two lines that feed my PVR and other receiver. Still not working though. Got a hold of Customer Advocacy today and she dispatched a tech who finally knew the drill and he moved one MoCo filter and boom it's all good. It seems the filters must be on the source lines ("risers" in a condo or apartment), not behind the PVR or receiver or in front of a splitter. Boy, when that little house icon appeared I never felt happier. Another debacle from Rogers. Oh, and along the way I lost dozens of channels on my second receiver which were eventually re-authorized and installed. Great tech training, guys....

In all fairness to Rogers on this one, Condo's and apartments, especially older ones can be a real pain. Some of the problems I have heard, different runs, bad wiring jobs, rodents chewing on cables in the walls, older wire, not the newer grade stuff they use, cable runs to nowhere, bad terminations etc.
Installing these things can be a real PITA.

My building is 20 years old, wiring/structure/location could not be more straightforward. Tech #1 failed to network the machines. Tech #2 placed the Moco filters in the wrong physical locations. Child's play. Poor training; no end-to-end customer experience management.

It totally makes sense, the MOCO filter is meant to to prevent your home cable "network" from exiting your home. Just one is needed at the source of your connection, whether it be in the grey box outside your home or in the riser in a condo/apt.
Has anyone tried the MOCO networking with their ethernet network yet? |

Here are the filters that are working for me:
* in the cable room servicing my floor: riser 1 and riser 2 have been networked with a splitter and one filter (in other words riser 1 is the main, and riser 2 now branches off of that with a splitter; the moco filter is at the source of riser 1). Riser 3 is my Rogers home phone In my unit: * splitter at riser 1: line to PVR has moco filter line to modem has moco filter * splitter at riser 2: line to HD receiver does not have moco filter; second spare line does have moco filter (not clear why) I thought the ethernet and USB ports at the rear of the 8642 and 4642 boxes were disabled? |

For those of you who have a working whpvr setup, how responsive are the trick modes on the 4642?
