Heh - did you have to hold up the antenna the whole time? Depending on how heavy it is, something like my NOT lamp pole stand would have worked nicely. I have the C2V on an old IKEA NOT lamp pole that I took the top off. It can be broken down and fits into a box about 14" x 14" x 4". Nice catches - I almost never get WUHF, although have had the others recently.

Stampeder,
I'm just waiting for someone with an antenna to go to an open house at the Minto Midtown penthouse. About 400 ft up. If the reception's great, I just need to win the lottery.

I really hope others have been DXing tonight too. So far, this has been one of the best nights of the year, and I've had a number of new catches. Here's the list so far:
03.1 WKYC Cleveland 03.2 WXPlus Cleveland 05.1 WEWS Cleveland 05.2 WEWSLWN Cleveland 06.1 C111 Paris (New) 07.1 WTRF-D1 Bridgeport (New) 07.2 WTRF-D2 Bridgeport (New) 07.3 WTRF-D3 Bridgeport (New) 10.2 CFPL London 11.1 WPXI Pittsburgh (New) 11.2 MeTV Pittsburgh (New) 12.1 WICU Erie 12.2 WBEP Erie 12.3 WSEE Erie 17.1 WDLI-D1 Canton 17.2 WDLI-D2 Canton 17.3 WDLI-D3 Canton 17.4 WDLI-D4 Canton 17.5 WDLI-D5 Canton 18.1 TVO London (New) 19.1 WOIO-D1 Cleveland (New) 19.2 MeTV Cleveland 22.1 WPMY-HD Pittsburgh (New) 22.2 CoolTV Pittsburgh (New) 23.1 ION Akron 23.2 qubo Akron 23.3 IONLife Akron 24.1 WJET-DT Erie 30.1 WGTE-HD Toledo (New) 30.2 Family Toledo (New) 30.3 Create Toledo (New) 31.1 CITY Woodstock 45.1 WNEO-HD Alliance 45.2 WNEO-D2 Alliance 45.3 WNEO-D3 Alliance 45.4 WNEO-D4 Alliance 49.1 WEAO-D1 Akron (New) 49.2 WEAO-D2 Akron (New) 49.3 WEAO-D3 Akron (New) 49.4 WEAO-D4 Akron (New) 54.1 WQLN-HD Erie 54.2 WQLN-S1 Erie 54.3 WQLN-S2 Erie 55.1 WBNX-HD Cleveland 55.2 WBNX-SD-Erie 55.3 ThisTV Cleveland 61.1 WQHS Cleveland 66.1 WFXP Erie Picking up the Global repeater in Paris was interesting, as it is VHF-LO, and my C2V is really geared more for VHF-HI and UHF. |

Goldielover, as always some AMAZING catches! LOL....you always manage to bag a few I'm jealous of! Been hoping for WOIO for awhile since it's so rare! And WTRF is a sweet catch! Congrats on all your new grabs!
It has been SUPER HOT tonight! I got 3 new catches myself, so much has been coming in, it's been hard to keep track! New to me: - Canton, OH's WDLI on RF49 - Pittsburgh, PA's WPGH on RF43 *over* WNED for a few seconds! - Youngstown, OH's WYTV on RF36 *over* CITS (I was momentarily baffled why Jimmy Kimmel was on CTS!) Old faves included: Cleveland, OH - WEWS (RF15), WKYC (RF17), WUAB (RF28), WBNX (RF30), WQHS (RF34) Pittsburgh, PA - WPMY (RF42), WPXI (RF48) Paris/Kitchener/London, ON - CFPL (RF10), CKCO (RF13), CITY (RF31), OMNI1 (RF48) Erie, PA - WICU (RF12), WSEE (RF16), WFXP (RF22), WJET (RF24), WQLN (RF50) Akron/Alliance, OH - WNEO (RF45), WEAO (RF50) Johnstown, PA - WJAC (RF34) It's been awhile since my mind has been this boggled with tropo! Lots of neat rare stuff coming in today! |

Garth, I'm glad you managed to pick up some of the good stuff too. There is still a few coming in this morning, although nothing like the firestorm of last night.
02.1 WKTV Utica 02.2 WKTVD2 Utica 06.1 WJAC Johnstown (New) 06.2 MeTV6 Johnstown (New) 21.1 WXXI-HD Rochester 21.2 WXXI-W Rochester 21.3 WXXI-C Rochester 31.1 CITY Woodstock 51.1 ION Batavia 51.2 qubo Batavia 51.3 IONLife Batavia 54.1 WQLN-HD Erie 54.2 WQLN-S1 Erie 54.3 WQLN-S2 Erie All regular catches with the exception of 06 WJAC Johnstown, which is new, and 02 WKTV Utica which I get only rarely. I think last night rates right up with with Oct. 8 last year for being the most interesting. I didn't set any distance records like I did on Oct 8, but I had the most channels I've ever had last night. Including my regulars, I scanned in about 75 channels. |

Yes, DX across Lake Ontario - Saturday Night, July 7, 2012.
From Kingston Ontario, receiving Buffalo NY direct - diagonally across Lake Ontario. Only the second time ever for myself, getting Buffalo direct. Got 2-1 WGRZ Buffalo in Kingston. |

Nice catch from that distance - 02.1 WGRZ isn't as strong as some of the other Buffalo channels are.

Didn't think I had too much of interest last night and early this morning, until I spotted 68.1 WSYT and 68.2 Country, from Syracuse. Both are new for me. Tropo a little stronger from the east again, which meant I was picking up channels from Rochester, Syracuse and Utica, although WEWS Cleveland made a very brief appearance. Signals were rather unstable this morning, even for the Toronto channels. Much to my daughter's annoyance, 57.1 CITY kept fading out, and we ended up watching on 31.1 CITY Woodstock. Things are more or less back to normal now.

Glad you got to see WSYT Goldielover! I also got that last night (I actually let out a gasp when I clicked on RF19 expecting TVO and then hearing "FOX 68" boom out from the announcer...looks like TVO was off for several hours again with transmitter work, allowing WSYT to visit!)
Tropo was pretty decent, but as Goldielover mentioned, a bit unstable. Through the night I got most Rochester stations, Utica's WKTV (RF29) and WUTR (RF30), Cleveland's WEWS (RF15) plus surprisingly strong analog from Peterborough and surrounding area (CHEX-12, TVO-18, CHEX-22, CIII-27). Was also surprised to see analog 8 CKNX from Wingham! I did get one new catch just before 7am - Buffalo's WBNF on RF15. Even though it's only a repeater of WNYB, was glad to catch it before CHCH lights up. So far this year I've caught 4 different channels on RF15, which makes me feel like I'm getting a "farewell" tour before Hamilton kicks in I also forgot to reply to Stampeder's comment about DXing from the CN Tower! I haven't done that, but I used to DX from the 27th floor of a friend's apartment near Parliament & Wellseley in downtown Toronto. He faced the lake, so it was AMAZING for Upstate NY tropo! In the pre-transition days when CBLFT was on RF 24, Syracuse's WSTM was able to overpower it at my pal's place, despite his apt being only 2 miles from the CN Tower! That apt was also the place I "discovered" Utica DTV! |

Getting a few in this morning too, although again rather unstable.
02.1 WKTV-HD Utica 02.1 WKTVD2 Utica 05.1 WEWS Cleveland 05.2 WEWSLWN Cleveland 06.1 CIII Paris 08.1 WROC Rochester 08.2 Bounce Rochester 12.1 WICU Erie 12.2 WBEP Erie 12.3 WSEE Erie 24.1 WJET Erie 31.1 CITY Woodstock 51.1 ION Batavia 51.2 qubo Batavia 51.3 IONLife Batavia 54.1 WQLN-HD Erie 54.2 WQLN-S1 Erie 54.3 WQLN-S2 Erie 61.1 WQHS Cleveland 66.1 WFXP Erie 67.1 WBBZ Buffalo 67.2 THISTV Buffalo 67.3 METV Buffalo 67.4 DAYSTAR Buffalo Nothing new, but the two more unusual catches were the VHF channels CIII Paris and WBBZ Buffalo. Garth, I do envy you WHEC and WHAM. I've never had so much as a sniff of either, and I know you get them fairly regularly. I know you're further east than I am, and also my windows face west, so I guess that gives us different results. I've never picked up WBNF either, according to my logs. I've only once picked up anything from Peterborough, and that was the CFTO-54 repeater on 35.1 back on May 27. I'd love to do some DXing on a higher floor south facing building. I will be in a financial position within the next few years to buy a condo, and that is one of my conditions - must be south facing with no obstructions, and preferably with a balcony I can stick the C2V out on. Probably won't be downtown - I prefer the slightly higher midtown area. I get very good results on the tenth floor facing west, but am drooling over the thoughts of what an even better location would bring in. |

Nice - I've been hoping for CKVR for awhile, but no luck so far. That's one I'm hoping to get when the Hamilton transmitter finally gets going.

Well, colour me floored...just picked up WBBZ with my northeast-facing, bouncing off a building, sitting on my glass-enclosed balcony Terk.
