Smile Tropospheric Ducting

Tonight seams like another great one for Tropospheric Ducting. Here's a link to William Hepburn's page showing the coverage area as of 8:10 pm.

Enjoy

Are you remembering to correct for Hepburn's use of UTC time, or are you also specifying UTC?

Default Tropospheric Ducting

Greetings Stampeder, I was using the Eastern Time Zone when I referred to the time @ 8:10 pm. as the map displayed. Sorry for the confusion.
Best regards.

Default Syracuse

Tropo season is uppon us again. I notice that the CBS station 5-1 (RF47?)has moved to 3-3 @480 (no more local weather channel)on CNY channel RF24 so we have NBC @1080 with CW @480 and now CBS on one channel.

My south Buffalo stations were 10dB lower this morning but these 'leftover' analogs on 12, 18, 22, 27 and 29 were very strong. I can't wait for all analogs to go away.

hehe, yes I have seen the Peterborough analog stations here in Buffalo last weekend. I agree, go away already...
But ya see, the CRTC won't require DTV everywhere, because some people might bleed from away the BDUs, can't have that right

Default HOT Tropo tonight!

Hey everybody!

Last night I got a wave of Southwestern Ontario tropo bagging my first VHF-lo DTV signal with CIII Paris on RF6! I also got CFPL (RF10) CKCO (RF13) TVO (RF28) and CITY (RF31) all from the London/Kitchener/Paris region!

And Today has been an *explosion* of Upstate NY tropo! I've been getting ALL Rochester DTV - even WHEC on RF10, (The glaring exception is WBGT-CA on RF46....they must be super low powered....) Also getting Syracuse, NY's WSTM (RF24) and WSYR (RF17.) Utica, NY's WKTV (RF29) also appeared very strong.

Swing those antennas while it's hot...loving the reception lately!

Default 41 DTV channels

Last night I did a scan, since you told me troppo was happening.
I got 41 DTv channels, + 2 analog.
I have doulbled up antennas pointed at NBC buffalo and another pointed at Hamilton.
troppo must have been good coming from the southeast, I got all rochester stations, I normally get some rochester, but this time much more.
I wanted to look some of them up for location, but some are gone today

Edit: On a closer look, the only one missing from yesterday is 3.1,2,3 WSTM Syracuse. Thats pretty good from Ajax on a side lobe.
Still have 8, 10, 15, 21 & 31

Got a number of channels myself this morning. Unfortunately, kid rescanned before I got a chance to take note of everything I got, so can't post the complete list. I know I got some Rochester channels, along with WQLN, WFXP and WJET Erie, ION Batavia, and WQHS Cleveland too. Nothing from Syracuse or Utica, but as I'm west facing, those are usually a little harder for me to pick up than those to the west. Garth, TVO Kitchener is a regular for me, I get that pretty well all year round. CITY Woodstock is a summer regular for me. Both are sometimes better than their Toronto equivalents if the multipath around here is being particularly problematical. Congrats on the VHF-LO - I've never managed one of those. I don't think either the Terk or the C2V are really meant to be able to pick up VHF-LO.

Some atypical reception of Toronto stations in Buffalo, ~ 11 PM
Strength in dBm is the pilot as measured on spectrum analyser
SNR is as received by the inDtube USB Tuner. I only recorded the
SNR for the ones I regularly receive and have configured in MythTv.
But been receiving them all nite including CJMT 51. The curious ones are
the ones measured ~ -87, -88 but still receiving them. And the ones in
the -50's are pretty radical for around here.

Code:
rf ch	dBm	SNR
9	-75	21
11	-82	21
13	-88
19	-56	26
20	-52	27
25	-57	27
41	-61	27
44	-70
47	-75
51	-87
