Except that Hollywood suite offers 4 commercial free movie channels in HD. It may be older movies but right now only mpix/encore avenue offers comparable and in the east it costs 9.95 with no HD feed to add mpix. I'm tired of watching movies with commercials in them personally. FX is not watered down, they are showing first run series ie Ultimate Fighter, Louie and it would be nice to watch Sons of Anarchy on a somewhat consistent basis.

Thumbs down

I would also love to see Hollywood Suite added to Shaw, more than any other channel. I've pretty much given up on this though. Shaw has said straight up that they will not be adding these channels.

Actually the other two channels (Channel Punjabi & PTC Punjabi) are the two main channels and Colors is the "filler" or the channel that will need support. In fact, Channel Punjabi is set to launch in full HD which Shaw is looking to launch and Shaw promoted both Punjabi channels at the two parades in Vancouver, no mention of Colors.

I worked for Rogers cable back east on the ethnic marketing side of things and Colors, for the most part, has been a complete flop on Rogers.

Oh really? then why is colors the most expensive at $10 per month????

the "main" ones like you mentioned are only $6 per month.

Question SPEED 2

Any possibility of SPEED 2 coming to shaw? Apparently SPEED 2 was made just because people asked for more racing on SPEED. Looking at their schedule they appear to have more live programming too...GP3, DTM, FIA GT1 all live. And other non-live series like GP2, F3 Euroseries, and stuff here...

http://www.speed2.com/schedules/SPEED2-Schedule.pdf

To be honest, SPEED should be showing all the racing and they should put all that joke they call programming on SPEED 2. Although it would appear some of that joke they call programming is on SPEED 2 as well...but appears to be more racing...

it would probably have to be approved by the CRTC before shaw or anybody else could pick it up

I'm pretty sure Speed2 isn't a TV channel, it's a PC streaming service authorized by your cable subscription which maybe puts it into unknown territory for the CRTC.

oh ok, that would explain why the programming had a play button on them...
Wish we could get that here, that would be sweet!

Seems Telelatino has finally launched in HD but it appears Shaw is not carrying it yet and they practically own it. Anyone know if Shaw will be launching it anytime soon?

Two reasons;

1. Colors is a much larger channel than the two Punjabi channels so they have more negotiation power when it comes to pricing.

2. The request for a higher price could be to offset the lose of revenue from the lack of local adverstiment in Canada. The other two are allowed local ads, Colors is not allowed any Canadian ads. This was the issue with Sony TV but Sony TV and ATN aired ad's from Canada until Mendhi TV lodged a complaint with the CRTC.

Because one channel is priced higher than the other doesn't mean it's a "better" channel. The smaller players always get shafted when dealing with the carriers even if the smalller channels bring you more subs. Because all 3 channels don't have linkage rules I would assume that all 3 might end up in a package.

mike70sk, you hit the nail right on the head.

For the last couple of years, we have been told by Shaw (installers, customer service reps, website, etc.) that the transition to all digital lineup would lead to the addition of new HD channels.

Well, it ain't happening.

I was actually excited about National Geographic Wildlife being added, until I realized how limited the programming is (same shows over and over).

What else has been added over the past 18 months?

^ In December 2011, Shaw launched in Calgary Space HD, Bravo HD, BNN HD, Discovery HD, and Animal Planet HD, which was a pretty decent addition.

For 2012 so far, it has been pretty underwhelming for the non-Movie Central HD and SportnetWorld HD crowd. From what I recall, we only have two new additions which is W Movies HD and Nat Geo Wild HD.

Animal Planet HD, the 2 Movie cental HD and sportsnet HD need the DNU and that won't happen in my area at all this year so those channels don't count since i can't get them but i'm sure i'm paying for them

jimjack, I suspect your box (or boxes) are not MPEG4 compatible and I believe Natgeo is an MPEG 4 channel.
