Default AzBox ME status update

Just a quick update on the AzBox ME front. As you all know, this receiver is not yet being sold yet in North America as AzBox Canada along with the other distributor in the US doesn't feel that the current AZTrino software that comes with the unit is suitable for use in the North American market. Unfortunately, after examining the current Neutrino/AZTrino source code, it would be very difficult to overhaul it so that it at least matches the current level of functionality as found in the current firmware that comes with the AzBox Elite, Ultra and Premium Plus.

This is why that AzBox Canada is currently working with Opensat in getting the Android operating system functional with the AzBox ME. The advantage of having Android is that Android applications can be installed in order to provide enhanced multimedia functionality to the unit. Already, we have the Android web browser running smoothly on the ME which runs a LOT better than the existing web browser found in the current AzBox models. Currently, work is being made on having the DVB demux interface operating on Android which is the "bridge" between the tuner backend and the video display frontend in order to be able to view satellite TV channel video and audio in Android.

We will keep everyone posted on AzBox Canada's progress as updates are available.

Regards,

Dr. Sat

Default ATSC Tuner?

DrSat,

Will the AZbox Me have a built-in ATSC tuner or will there be an optional addin card available?

Thanks

It doesn't have an ATSC tuner built in. However, support for an ATSC USB tuner will be added shortly after launch which would plugin to the back on the unit.

I think I saw this twice on NBC! $3.5 million for a normal ad... this is 3 times as long, with 2 airings = $21 million!!! Whoa.

K: Unless FTA is different than most modern electronics, that 25% discount just wiped out Dr. Sat's profit.

As the AzBox Me can use several different operating systems, AzBox Canada has created two editions of this product, AZtrino and Android. Both of these feature the same hardware and only differ in the pre-installed operating system. Regardless of edition, the user is free to install up to 3 different operating systems which can be selected by holding down a specific number key while the unit boots.

The AZtrino edition of the AzBox Me is now available which has the current version of the AZTrino operating system pre-installed now that blind scan was recently implemented in AZtrino. We have a customised version of this operating system which is based on the current AZtrino version but with a current North American satellite list and Americanised user interface installed in these units. Keep in mind that the AzTrino operating system is geared mostly for European users using their receiver to view subscription programming as most providers in that area allow third party receivers to be used with their smart card so it is not really suited for feedhunting like we do here in North America.

As previously stated, the Android edition of the AzBox Me will be released this summer once core development on the Android operating system is completed. It is being developed with feedhunting and the North American market in mind and will be available by summer of this year.

Regards,

Dr. Sat
