Having my PVR for almost a week now I've had the chance to play with it some more. Unfortunately with some playing you do find some bugs or quirks. Today when I came home and wanted to watch some recorded shows from the night before I noticed that there was no sound when the show started playing. I hit fast forward three times to get further into the show very quickly and started playing and suddenly there's sound! I rewound (normally) back to the beginning of the show and no sound. I figured it was probably the channel. I fast forwarded (once) and no sound even on the spot that there was sound before. I tried the fast-forward three times trick and there was sound! ??? I hit rewind three times to get the fast speed and then suddenly there's sound at the start of the show.
At this point, having read recommendations on here about rebooting the PVR I decided to do this. After rebooting this fixed the issue and my recorded shows started having sound from the beginning again. However, a few hours later I wanted to watch Nip/Tuck. I put the PVR on the appropriate channel and left it running while I answered the phone. I rewound to the beginning of the show (great feature btw) and started playing but there was no sound! I fast-forwarded three times to get the quickest speed and when I pressed play I got sound again. Grrrr. When I caught up to the show I pressed LIVE to watch the show live but there was no sound as well when doing this. I had to press the rewind button three times and then play so I basically watch the whole show "recorded" or just shortly behind live tv. To get sound I had to either power off and then on the unit or change channels. Kinda sucks if you wanted to buffer the show. I called Rogers after the show and the rep said that this was the first time he had ever gotten a call about a PVR having issues. I almost chuckled at that because I've read enough on here to know better. Sooooo, after spending the last hour reading old posts, I didn't really come across people having this kind of an issue. Saw/read many OTHER issues but hopefully those have all been taken care of. So is this or was this an issue earlier this year or could my receiver be a little buggered? Speaking of which is the receiver that I got from them brand new or refurbished? And I think I've seen 57 saying that you should reboot the receiver every now and then, is this really necessary? I don't mind it but I'm curious. Thanks for any feedback. New to this but still loving the PVR despite some early growing pains. Lobo |

Yes I power it off every night before going to bed and the unit sits in a cabinet with lots of room above it. I did notice that the unit runs warm compared to satellite receivers.
And as of this morning I haven't encountered the problem again. I'll see how things are tonight. Lobo |

Do you have your 8000 audio going through a home theatre receiver?
I have my audio via the coax output into my surround processor. This means that audio from "live" tv on analogue channels doesn't come through, but if you pause or rewind for a second it will as technically, then you're then watching a digital recording. I don't have the technical knowledge to know exactly why that is, but I know there are many on here who do. I've not encountered any problems with audio on recorded programs though. If it's a consistent thing, you may well have a faulty box. |

salinger, this is odd. My 8000 is outputing audio via the coax output even on live analog TV. I have no idea why - I was very surprised when I found it was working, but the AV receiver is very clearly picking up PCM audio on the coax input on analog channels.

The audio from the analogue channels is converted to PCM on newer STBs. On older boxes this was a problem since many A/V receivers didn't have "auto audio sensing" so people would have to constantly switch between the analogue inputs and the digital input when switching between an analogue and digital channel. See the FAQ "if only I'd have known".

Ah, well that explains it. I hadn't realized that they had made this change on the 8000.
