Noticed through the day that TSN was using their new double video screen during their simulcast of ESPN's coverage of IRL? One video was showing the race and the other was displaying commercials, also took note that they were jumping back fourth from wide to regular size resolutions. They must be doing some testing today.

Actually they have been letterboxing ESPN/Fox games produced in 16:9 lately since they switched to the format, its just that they haven't done it for their own major sporting events yet.

Though this is the first time they've used the new Side By Side...

Well, next Wednesday the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs begins, will we see any changes or any more rollouts for TSN or will they continue with their outdated displays until whenever god knows when they will fully implement their new package. Don't really know what to expect, as they are developing in house and sport by sport, doesn't seem its likely though.

You know, if I were them, I would have just directly migrated to the ESPN "silver/brass" graphics for sports (though, maybe with the brass parts colored red instead).

They're already using them on MLS games ... but thenagain, MLS on TSN is just trying hard to be as much like ESPN as possible. (And yes, they finally did admit they have been having trouble with the scoreboard on one of their MLS trucks,;you know, the one that has a different size every week. The one that was minuscule on opening day?) And yes, they do have a hockey version of it; its basically just the football one sans timeout lights.

Now just look at that, can you imagine it just saying "TORONTO" and "NEW JERSEY" in there instead? Then for curling, maybe reuse the possession arrow from football for the hammer and put in the timeout lights for rock count? Then for Raptors games ... well just do it exactly like ESPN, music and all (Not the first time, the aforementioned MLS example, and they used ESPN's college basketball theme for their March Madness stuff too)

Why does TSN have to be ESPN though? Especially for hockey, where ESPN only does some 10 college games a year. Not to mention they don't do a very good job based on reviews I've read. TSN's hockey scorebug is a lot nicer than that one, IMO.

TSN seems to use some ESPN elements for any new sports they pick up. The March Madness coverage has some ESPN elements, but quite a few new TSN elements too. The MLS coverage is just weird, but my assumption is TSN wants a European-style soccer scorebug (ex. TOR 1-1 LA), so they just use ESPN's.

TSN doesn't even produce Raptors game, MLSE does it for them. TSN just gives them the graphics. Hence why there is a different scorebug and some other elements are slightly different.

ESPN changes their graphics every two years or so anyway, there is no continuity.

It's not that they have to be ESPN. It's that ESPN has the nicest graphic packages in the industry and the idea TSN would rather have there in house team design there own instead of just borrowing from the WWLD seems kind of silly IMO.

That's debatable. I prefer CBS, CBC, Fox and NBC to ESPN's. And from what I've seen of TSN's new graphics, I think I prefer theirs too.

They were doing a side by side for commercials during F1 races all of last year too. It's really good for stuff like racing where they don't stop the race during commercials.

Actually, they've used variations of that silver/brass one consistently since 2009, and their current SportsCenter look has some elements from it too. I don't think they'd be throwing it away that quickly if they only just retouched it last year.

The only major deviations are bowling (which still uses the admittedly awesome MNF 2006 "orange/yellow/black" look), and Monday Night Football (which has that completely different look). Frozen Four only started using the silver look this year, they were also using the MNF ones.

I think the current Fox Sports package is better than anything ESPN has ever done.

Again, they're using some stuff in the new style for the Masters coverage they're doing, but still, nothing else!

April 11th is when the playoffs start ... maybe something new will be rolled out, I just hope for a new Sportscentre intro or studio look, like for ESPN's Sportscenter, they have used 3-4 different intros for Sportscenter, here, we have just used the same one since 2009 .... I really hope TSN will get things right ..

Also just noticed something, on the last 2 broadcasts of Sportscentre they have used the current U.S. theme music on there "The NHL wrap-up is brought to you buy ..." It sounds like they are trying new things, I know this is only music, but its a step in the right direction ..

On TSN now the playoff preview show is on, and just similar to the Tradecenter, its formated into 16:9 with the twitter bar at the bottom and the info column to the right and the single line ticker on the bottom (ESPN's version). However they still the same damn other graphics, you the ones with the name and the SC grey header.

AGAIN, a major sports milestone, and TSN continues to refuse! But, didn't NHL coverage randomly start using the red/white scoreboard a few days into the Playoffs last year?

However, the frame rate on the replay transition seems to have gotten bumped (i.e. it looks as smooth as the live action stuff). I'm not sure if its a glitch or not, but it kinda looks cooler
