How do I do it? I need:
1 High speed internet connection 2 Land line phones 1 Fax line 1 HDTV I think we're comfortable going OTA for TV, but what's my best bet for internet and phone? Teksavvy? Any other ISPs good? We're not downloaders. Just surfers. Might get some TV content over the internet to suppliment OTA, but not huge. I'm new and a little lazy, so haven't exactly scoured the forums here, so apologies if this has been discussed to death. Just can't stomach giving these bozo's our money any more. Bad products, bad service. Looking for recommendations, thanks! |

Welcome to the forum. A lot of what you're asking depends on where you are.
As for ISPs, take a look at our Looking for ISPs thread here. Many of those companies will also offer home phone service as well. You might also want to consider a VOIP provider for your home phone. We have a forum devoted to VOIP here. Also, as with any new members, I'd recommend you take a moment to review the rules of the forum, if you haven't already. There's also some other valuable information in the Digital Forum Help Information forum as well, available here, including a list of providers we recommend you avoid due to unethical activity. |

A simple way to avoid Bell and Rogers is to move to Alberta!
Then you can have Telus and Shaw But seriously, going to OTA is a smart move. Most of the Internet re sellers, use Bell or Rogers infrastructure so you still pay them something, albeit indirectly. If you really want a landline that doesn't use either of the big two's infrastructure, try Magic Jack. I'm not sure if it handles faxes but it does have area codes across Canada available. |

Not knowing where you live, I will assume Ontario.
TV: OTA, ShawDirect or in the (supposed) near future, BlueSky Internet: that's where you can't really avoid giving Rogers or Bell money. All the 3rd party providers like Teksavvy and Distributel give Rogers a good portion of the money you pay them. Unless you would like to tether with your phone through a wireless provider like Wind Mobile, or sign up with satellite internet (Xplorenet for instance, which is very expensive for not so great service) Fax and land lines: same as the internet above for many companies that re-sell Bell telephone. You could go with Primus, but I am not certain whether they re-sell Bell or not. Maybe someone can confirm this. |
