Default Green color convergence settings on 46HX83. How to adjust??

Hello everyone!

My name is Steve and I just purchased a 46HX83 cinema series TV. I know how to adjust the 9-point red and blue convergence through the menu, but I would like to adjust the green as well... cause i do see much green bleeding through on white text!!! I know you can adjust this through the TV's factory settings. I just don't know how to do it on the 46HX83.. I know its techical and I know you can screw stuff up if you change things... but iam just looking for someone who knows this TV set and would know how to do this! I work in IT and Iam pretty technical so if someone knows how to do this and would walk me through.. that would be great!

If you want to adjust the green, you'll need to access the 56pt. convergence in the service menu. I'm pretty sure that PBC (a user here) wrote out an extensive guide on accessing and using this tool in a thread on this site (probably located in the "Home Theatre FAQ's" forum).

Edit: Here's that thread

To expand his #3: To access the service menu, you need to hit mute twice, then hold down mute while you press the "Menu" button on the front of the TV.

Also, be careful not to spend too much time with the grid projecting on the screen (less than 30 minutes). I got a little too caught up fixing the geometry on my 46H84C and wound up getting image retention of the entire grid on my green CRT. It disappeared completely after 3-4 minutes, but to say I nearly crapped my pants...

Thanks Guys for your help!

I guess I'll follow PBC's directions then!! So "Soul Flare" do you have a 46HX83 as well or is this 56 PT Convergence the same for every Toshiba TV ? Also did it make a big differnce over the 9 pt when you finished? What iam really looking for is to make the picture very sharp and crisp!!

I had a 46H83, and now I have a 46H84C. To my knowledge, the service-level 56pt. convergence is the same on all 83 and 84 series TVs.

The 56pt. convergence should make a big difference over the 9pt. Not only can you correct the convergence at 47 more places, but thanks to the full-screen grid, you can also see how well the colours are aligned between the points. Using the "+"s, you may think you have the red aligned perfectly on two points, but the line between them could be slightly curved instead of straight. So with the 9pt, you can end up with 9 spots on the screen where everything is focused properly, while the rest is considerably off.

Thanks guys!

That was very simple.. I don't get why Toshiba just doesn't put that 56pt grid on the user menu??

Anyways.. Man .. the colors where so OFF it wasn't funny!! It only took me about 10mins on each color to get it perfect.

I have another question though.. The Grid was not centered to the screen .. is there anyway to center it??

I believe they do now, with the x4 models.

Yep. However, you get 56 "+"s instead of the far more helpful grid (which is still available in the service menu). Hey Johnny, do you know if there's any way to exit the service menu without turning the TV off?

Yeah, but fixing the HPOS (horizontal position) on an 83 series TV is a bit of a pain in the ass. It's not something I've attempted myself (since my 46H83 was centered out of the box), but I know that it involves accessing the "address" menu (a level deeper than service) and that you need a specialty remote in order to do it.

There's a thread about that fix and a link to a guide here.

Nope. That's the only way AFAIK.

Hitachi has had their 117 point convergence in the User menu for a while, but I don't think it gets written to ROM. The DCAM (service) convergence for Hitachi allows you to write to ROM.

.
Not sure if it's the same on the H84 but on my ooooold X81 Toshiba there was a control that let you move the grid which was INDEPENDANT from HPOS.

HPOS moved the visible image, while this control just moved the gride reference. I can't remember what the parameter was, one of the STP ones perhaps?

Ya the HPOS is alittle off .. I can tell in 4:3 mode that the black/gray bars are not even.. its not a hugh deal ..but that does sound like a pain in the ass...I think i'll just have the toshiba service guy come center the screen since it is under warranty!
