Default RESOLVED — Shaw mistakenly calls Manitoba customers for equipment upgrade

Hi everyone, my apologies if this is already covered in another thread, but I couldn't find one.

I'm a Winnipeg subscriber with TV, computer, and phone. Came home today to find a message from Shaw saying I needed to upgrade my equipment in order to blah blah blah new channels blah blah blinding Internet speeds.... asking me to phone a BC-area number to arrange for a technician.

Is this legit? Why am I supposed to call BC in order to get a Manitoba appointment? (And what's wrong with my current equipment anyway? )

Anyone else received this call?

I got the call as well. I called the number in the message and the lady apologized. They accidentally called 6000 homes in Winnipeg instead of the 6000 homes in Salmon Arm, BC that needed to be called. Apparently in Salmon Arm they are still using DCT2000/2500's and they are being upgraded to all digital and need DCT700's. Shaw recently purchased that cable co and is doing upgrades. The rep apologized for the inconvenience.

(I did not ask for a credit for the inconvenience...but thought it was odd that she had to add... I am sorry there is nothing I can do for your troubles)

Glad I checked here before calling... hate to imagine what their call volumes will be like over the next couple of days.

Area code 204 instead of 250!! Interesting to me because Shaw also acquired a few other cable companies in the area and this gives hope that they will be upgraded also. Compete with the sat. companies.

I thought it was weird... I got the call too, I didn't have a chance to copy down the 250 number, and getting a recorded message to call Shaw LD didn't make any sense, so I called 480-SHAW, and they didn't have a clue, and told me my hardware was up to date.

I got a call that I missed 2 days ago from 1888-660-6382. They did not leave a message. Google search says it was a Shaw number.
