First time ever in a chat forum, be gentle please. Just purchased a DCX3400 Shaw HD PVR to complement my current digital box format. My HD TV is a 5yrs old Hitachi, 52 inch, Plasma. It supports all connections from any component I may want to add. Now that you know what i'm dealing with, here is my problem. read the entire specifications and connection details of my DCX3400.
The connection are easy to follow, to wit: HDMI cable connect from TY to PVR, done. Plug PVR into power source, done. Connect Cable to PVR, done. Turn on TV and let the good times roll! Now, when above noted didn't work, i reconnected to my digital box and behold, it works! One step further, I thought to go classic. Plug in video and audio connector to digital box, it works! Tried HDMI again, this time with different connector, no work! Tried to use classic audio/video connector on PVR, no work! Threatening, cajoling, pleading, crying, etc... doesn't make a difference. To resume, trying any connectors from TV to PVR, no work. Connecting from TV to Digital box, it works. |

Have you activated the 3400 with Shaw?

sometimes when you hook those boxes up they power up but then seem like they're dead.they need a few moments to wake up.

With your old digital box, did you connect to the TV using HDMI or analog?

on the 3400, composite port is not activated until the receiver is activated.
Either call Shaw or go here https://activations.shaw.ca/ If you bought the receiver at a authorized dealer (FS, BB, etc) then you will need to call or chat with Shaw. |

Sounds like you never had it activated. Do as DSgamby says. The 3400 may update itself. That happens after the activation. The 3400 will turn itself off then start to download the latest firmware. That can take anywhere from 10 mins to over an hour. Then you should be good to go!
