Default Slingbox HD and FibreOp is a terrific combo

Things you can do with your 30 Mb/s upload...

Traveling gets boring real fast. One of things I missed was local TV. I picked up a Slingbox. It worked "alright", but the picture was not the greatest. The constraint was my home upload speed could not deliver a good picture. At the time, we only had 640 kbps upload. So over time, the Slingbox ended up in a drawer.

Along comes FibreOp and its 30 Mb/s upload. Dig out the old Slingbox (Classic) out. Hook it up. It works but the picture still isn't good enough. This time around, it's the hardware that is the bottleneck. I headed out to FS and picked up the Slingbox HD. Boy, what a difference. Picture is excellent. Very watchable, even sport events show very well.

If you want a place shifting solution and you have FibreOp, give the Slingbox HD a spin.

Yes, with the newer FiberOP speeds, it works pretty good.

I've had a Slingbox of some sorts for years. I bought the first Pro-HD in Saint John before they should have been released here.

I like them pretty good but they have two main issues. The block power supplies are crap and usually die within 2 years. Sling Media is also buying cheap filter caps. and they burp (ie.- die) within 1 to 2 years.

I'm still running my second Slingbox. My first was a Pro-HD and the second is a Solo. Both developed bad caps which, I have replaced.

Sling Media does not seem to be doing anything currently for the home "place shifter".

Today, I would consider a Hava/Monsoon product. They have some rough edges but seem to be getting better.
