By local carrier I meant a carrier that is just that... Local. No fades, really strong but silent. For some reason, some local transmitter was powered up on 940 KHz

- CKKI-FM 89.9 is now active. The once pirate radio KKIC on 106.7 is now legal as CKKI-FM. My reception of CKKI-FM is about the same as when they operated as a pirate station.
- 106.7 fm seems to be blank. We'll see if CKDG-FM 105.1 moves onto that frequency now. - CHDO-FM 89.7 is the low powered travellers info station operated by the Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport in Dorval. Ran all sorts of Airport info. Very boring. I usually would get this station. Now that CKKI-FM 89.9 is on air, my reception of CHDO-FM 89.7 is gone. Drowned out. Seems a little strange for the CRTC and Industry Canada to license CKKI-FM so close to CHDO-FM. Unless there have been changes issued for CHDO-FM. |

It seems that CHDO-FM has moved from 89.7 fm to 88.1 fm.
I managed to pick up their very weak signal in my car this evening. |

Several Media sources are reporting today that the CRTC has approved three things concerning AM radio stations for the Montreal market.
http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2011/2011-721.htm CKGM-AM 990 (TSN Radio 990) got the go ahead to move to 690 AM. A new News/Info station in French got the go ahead for 940 AM. And 990 AM went to a group that wants to run a Gay Pride station in French. |

Any idea when these changes will take place?

I think the CRTC applies a time frame for these things to happen. I would guess within a year.

And Dufferin must file an Engineering brief for the use of 990 within 10 days or its approval to use 990 is null and void.
Teitolman (for the English Info station) and Cogeco(for English traffic) are free to apply for other frequencies should they wish. |

The signal of CKKI-FM 89.9 seems to reach a fair bit for a low powered FM station. In the Central Marche area on the Island of Montreal, the signal was loud and clear in the car. I figured that they would be limited just to the West Island. But Central Island seems to be covered as well.

The owner of CKLX-FM Planète Jazz (91,9) wants to convert the license into the talk radio format like CHOI in Québec City.
http://argent.canoe.ca/lca/affaires/...18-065528.html Link is in french. http://blog.fagstein.com/2012/01/13/cklx-talk-radio/ Fagstein |

I'M sad about it, because it's my favorite radio station, and the only all-jazz radio...
i will record it on CD's and play them later, on the car, like old Expos baseball games

Could someone confirm whether CJMS 1040 is off the air for good or are they going through one of their bogus technical issues?

The CJMS 1040 website doesn't indicate anything about their over the air signal. But, a quick google search gave me this....

More movement in the Montreal area radio scene.
A new application for a low powered FM station in the Hudson, QC area. Just northwest off the island of Montreal. http://westislandgazette.com/news/28125 Plus CKDG-FM drops it's request for 106.7 fm http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2010/2010-271-1.htm |
