So far I have only received 3 confirmations via PM (cgravelle, tvottawa and mrvanwinkles). I think tvlurker is also attending.
I think some others may have confirmed on the forum, but their posts were deleted. If that is you (or you haven't confirmed), please send me a PM. I will be giving the Royal Oak a rough estimate as to how many will be attending tomorrow (Friday) late afternoon.

I also reserved a table (under the same name) for between 5:30 and 6:00 for those who said they wanted to join us for dinner.

I would like to thank everyone who showed up last night. There were seven who met for dinner and I counted 14 at the meeting. It was good to see those of you I have met before again and nice to put faces to names for those who I hadn't met.
I would like to thank tvlurker (William) for talking about what is new at the Broadcast Technical Advisory Committee at IC and ve2vq for bringing his modified M4/ KROSS antenna to show how a cheap, poor performing antenna can be modified to become a good performer. I hope everyone else enjoyed themselves as much as I did.

Hello:
As mentioned at the meeting, I planned to stack a couple of 4228s to improve my 18/28 wwny reception. Well I did this earlier in the week and have taken 18/28 from about 30% available to very nearly 80-90%. The reflectors are just touching (plastic ends contact) to describe the spacing I used. Since my antenna is an attic mount - does anyone think there is value in covering the reflector with foil? Would the foil be grounded? I have no wind concerns. Additionally, as mentioned, I noticed the Ottawa by-law against antennas was repealed. This is not legal advice - but - please see these links of interest: http://ottawa.ca/residents/bylaw/a_z...dex_en-01.html http://www.omb.gov.on.ca/e-decisions...ay-04-2012.pdf Looking for feedback. |

IFAIK, covering the reflector with foil will not yield any improvements, for as long as the reflectors are spaced less than one wavelength apart, they are considered opaque to the waves. Think of it like a mesh, small objects will travel through it while large objects won't.

I will be able to attend that day. Are people going to be meeting early to grab a bite or just get something to eat at 7:30?

cgravelle,
It would be preferable if people can arrive early to eat, and be ready to participate in the meeting at 7:30 pm. |

I am teaching a spin class that night, but can make it shortly after 8:00. Won't have eaten (can't eat much before a workout) so will be ordering food at that time.

Date and time are good for me. And so YES I think I will be attending.
Thank you for organizing the meeting. Look forward. See you there. Thought for possible subject: [ Maybe a quick review of the status of the OTA broadcasters and channels in Ottawa and nearby, or even a little furthur off (receivable by some)? Recent changes. What they're up to. What they may be planning in the near future. How that may affect viewers - those receiving their signals. I read some snippets here and there on the Forum of possible channel changes and power changes etc. etc. And this seems to be a thing commonly discussed at the beginning of the meetings. Kind of like an Introduction "Status" of broadcasting in Ottawa & Region - at the beginning of the meeting. Some members seem to be really up on these subjects - because they must read alot of material like: submissions to the CRTC and what not. Or may be somehow involved in the industry. For myself ... I find it's really interesting, and valuable to hear this sort of info. ] |

A reminder that the next DHC OTA Members' Meet will be held Tuesday 20th November at the Royal Oak, 329 March Road in Kanata, starting at 7:30 pm.
We have presentations lined up from Roger1818, tvlurker, myself and others. It would help planning if you can post to this thread if you are intending to come. DXer. |
