Ya I figured it came remastered from CBS and not space. I was suprised to see TOS in 16X9 as well, that was nice. I might have to look closer at the BD's.

Space broadcasts ToS in 16x9? How does it look?
I'm guessing they either had to crop the top/bottom of the picture we see on the bluray. Or maybe the original film elements weren't 4:3 so they added additional footage in? |

It looks great. I tried to look for signs of cropping but I couldn't see any, so if they did crop it I sure can't tell.

All TOS re-mastered content on the HD DVD / DVD flippers discs are 4x3 so they most definitely are cropping.
Blu-ray master info. "Befitting a television series produced in the 1960s, the 'Star Trek' Blu-ray set retains the show's original 4:3 aspect ratio, pillarboxed into the center of the 16:9 frame. This includes all of the new visual effects footage, which was technically rendered at a wider 16:9 ratio but is center-cropped to 4:3 here. In fact, in preparing the Remastered episodes, the studio struck three separate high-def transfers: one at a consistent 4:3 ratio (the version available in this box set), one that varies between 4:3 for live action footage and 16:9 for visual effects (X-Box Live users may have downloaded episodes in that format), and one with all of the live action footage cropped and stretched to 16:9. As far as I'm concerned, the 4:3 version is the most appropriate and the only one worth considering." http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/675/startrektos_s1.html |

Picked up season 1 of TNG on blu-ray today and all I can say is WOW! It looks and sounds incredible!
Great review over at highdefdigest: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/5230...ek_tng_s1.html

The only problem with the Blu Ray of Season 1 TNG is that it's Season 1 TNG. Looks good, but the episodes are still meh. Still it gets better.

The only season with Tasha Yar/Denise Crosby. That if nothing else made it worth watching.

I watched the extra "ENERGIZE! Taking the Next Generation to the Next Level" on disc 1. Getting blown away at all the hard work that was done to get it this far.
I had to upgrade my amp to take advantage of the DTS-MA 7-1. Sounds amazing. Last edited by querty-m4n; 2012-07-26 at 04:48 PM. Reason: I can't complain about anything. I did. |

Bill Hunt at the Digital Bits is reporting sound issues. No word yet on how CBS is going to address them.

Wow! Some of the 7.1 center channel dialogue on a few episodes is bleeding into the fronts. Some audio sync issues as well on some of the extras. I haven't personally confirmed this, this is what is being reported on-line. Ouch not good!

That it is. I checked by watching three episodes. I wonder if this is due to converting it from 2 channel to 7.1 channels. Only speculating though.
Another thing... the case is cheaply made. A few plastic pieces came out when I opened it the first time. I hope I don't have to replace it. |

I don't think they will force it upon you to replace it, but you did pay really good money for a product that is flawed. Up to you how you feel about that.

Not really wanting to return it. Discs are in great shape, just plastics made more cheaply.
Watched some more last night. I forgot most of the 1st season, as it's been a long time. I really like the "Datalore" episode. Can't wait to see the other episode with the Crystalline entity being blown up. Saw it on Space a few months ago, I believe it was in the 4th or 5th season. |
