does anyone know of a good free software program to design a layout for a basement? it can be webbased as well. i just want something to start the planning with detail dimensions and everything (doors, outlets etc)

Google Sketchup. There is a bit of a learning curve to it.
Also being a general purpose 3D program, a lot of home plan specifics may be manual. |

Your planning a $15-$20k investment. What's $80 for a design program? It cost me exactly $6 for my planning: graph paper, pencils and a ruler.
