I recently purchased the ******** 7286. I wanted to know what hardware I need to amplify it? Is it just an amplifier you buy or is there some custom work involved.

Those antennas are generally frowned upon. You should contact the antenna retailer for assistance,.. or even better to see if you can return that antenna.

Yeah, I would return it too. A real DB8 or CM4228 would do a better job.
But to answer your question, a 75 ohm input preamp is needed to amplify it. Get a quality name brand low noise unit.
