Question Hand Held Devices for DTV?

I have a Casio Portable Hand Held 2.3 inch TV-995. It says it has a NTSC Tuner. Does anybody know what I have to do to get OTA digital TV channels. I like to use this TV when the power goes out. My two local channels CBC and Global have already gone digital. TVO has also gone digital so all that is left is the french CBC Channel in analogue.

yeah, replace it with a portable LCD TV with an ATSC Tuner.
There's a few different ones floating around.

I picked up a Haier 7" model for $40 a while back. It does the job very well for that price

Newegg may still have them in stock.

cyclist44,

That TV is ready for retirement.

To keep it working you'd have to attach a converter. The converter would need electricity. You wouldn't be able to use it when the power goes off.

I think I might go out and get a little ATSC handheld TV, too.

I bought a Haier 9" ATSC-equipped handheld TV last year for $56 at a surplus store just before they ran out. Nothing about it on the Haier web site anymore, though. cyclist44, unfortunately there does not seem to be much selection like that anymore but keep looking for something like that with ATSC capability.

Mine's the HLT71 as well.
Was about $45 taxes and eco fee all-in.
It was "refurb" from newegg, but the only thing that looked bad about it was the box (terrible shape, lol). The device itself was perfect.

If battery life is an issue, it's user accessible, and replacements can be found online.

Regarding a couple of new posts, as far as I know there are no "hand held" UPSes, Laptops, etc. so those posts have been removed. Please keep this thread focused on extremely portable and small devices for watching DTV.

I saw a portable TV in store a few weeks ago displaying an OTA signal from the CBC. Unfortunately I can't tell you more because I didn't really pay much attention to it as I was looking for antennas (which they didn't have any in stock by the way). I also can't remember the official name of the store, but locals in Niagara Falls call it the ebay store. Also, while I'd like to be able to direct people to particular brands or particular big name stores, I have not seen another one since. They are out there though.

I saw an Artec 8.5" portable yesterday at Sayal in Scarborough, 119.99
http://artectv.com/ehtm/products/t28A.htm
They had it hooked up to an Indoor antenna and it only scanned in 3 channels, 5.1, 57.1 & 64.1
I might have looked into it further if it had better reception.

Default Portable TV for ATSC tuning?

I've not found a post for this subject, so decided to start one.

Basically want to start discussion about using portable LCD TVs such that you can use to tune for OTA signals, using its signal meter and/or manual RF channel edits.

I recently bought an Artec T28A portable 9" LCD to do just that, and can provide more info if there are interested folks.

Basically, I'm looking for another portable ATSC TV that meets these requirements.

1. Sensitive tuner (subjective, I know).
2. Allows manual RF channel entry.
3. Has signal meter (with numbers % shown is better than just bars).
4. Channels added stay in memory and not lost if you turn it off (this problem happens on some portable TVs).

Hearing that Samsung, Sony, and LG are most senstive tuners, do these brands exist in portable TV form (so that you can bring it outside and attach to short RG6 while you position the antenna and view a particular channel and its signal)?

Chances are, a tuner from one of those companies will be in the TV, even though it's brand on the outside doesn't match.

TV manufacturers don't usually make every single component themselves, they source it from others.
