The Toronto and Montreal games were both in HD. Did I miss something or does the CBC finally have two HD trucks in eastern Canada?

For the rest of the month
Oct 22 - 7pm ---------------- Toronto @ Montreal - Ontario except Ottawa/Ottawa Valley, B.C., Quebec, Alberta, Atlantic Canada and Northern Canada (CBAT Fredericton · CBCT Charlottetown · CBET Windsor · CBHT Halifax · CBLT Toronto · CBMT Montreal · CBNT St. John's · CBRT Calgary · CBUT Vancouver · CBXT Edmonton · CFFB Iqaluit · CFWH Whitehorse · CFYK Yellowknife · CHAK Inuvik · CFTK Terrace · CHEX Peterborough · CHEX-2 Oshawa · CJDC Dawson Creek · CKSA Lloydminster · CKWS Kingston) Columbus @ Ottawa - Ottawa and Ottawa Valley only (CBOT Ottawa) Carolina @ Winnipeg - Manitoba, Saskatchewan and North West Ontario (CBWT Winnipeg · CBKT Regina · CBKST Saskatoon) Note: CKPR Thunder Bay has not declared what game it will be picking up on its website, although the Shaw guide shows the station taking the Jets game. Oct 22 - 10pm ---------------- New York Rangers @ Edmonton - Full network Oct 29 - 3pm ----------------- Ottawa @ New York Rangers - Full Network (Note, CBC website says Ottawa only, but CKPR and CHEX/CHEX-2 have already said they are carrying the game. Odds are this is national and not a local CBOT broadcast) Oct 29 - 7pm ----------------- Pittsburgh @ Toronto - Ontario, Alberta, North Canada (CBET Windsor · CBLT Toronto · CBOT Ottawa · CBRT Calgary · CBXT Edmonton · CFFB Iqaluit · CFWH Whitehorse · CFYK Yellowknife · CHAK Inuvik· CHEX Peterborough · CHEX-2 Oshawa · CKWS Kingston · CKSA Lloydminster) Boston @ Montreal - Quebec, Atlantic Canada, British Columbia (CBAT Fredericton · CBCT Charlottetown · CBHT Halifax · CBMT Montreal · CBNT St. John's · CBUT Vancouver · CFTK Terrace · CJDC Dawson Creek) Winnipeg @ Tampa Bay - Manitoba, Saskatchewan and North West Ontario (CBKT Regina · CBKST Saskatoon · CBWT Winnipeg) Note: CKPR Thunder Bay has not declared what game it will be picking up on its website, although the Shaw guide shows the station taking the Jets game. Oct 29 - 10pm ------------------- Washington @ Vancouver - Full Network ======= CKPR will keep a list of games its choosing at http://www.tbtv.com/shows.aspx?showid=620. We can see that on Nov 12 they already took Battle of Ontario over the Jets game. But many weeks are TBA. Also, expect Manitoba, Saskatchewan and North West Ontario (CBKT Regina · CBKST Saskatoon · CBWT Winnipeg) to get all Jets game this season on HNIC from the looks of it.

Interesting that Saskatchewan will continue to receive the Winnipeg games. I wonder if CBC did some market research or if they just making an assumption what they want?

But the Ottawa region doesn't include Kingston,
or is that because CKWS is a network affiliate and doesn't have to listen to the NHL?

None of the CBC stations have to listen to the NHL. Regional territories have nothing to do with CBC's distribution. Ottawa and Montreal share Atlantic Canada, yet usually the Leafs game is shown here (like last Saturday). I think the CBC assumes that the aurora of the new Jets will bring viewers in until December, then they can make a decision going forward.

Right now on the Shaw Guide for Thunder Bay. Both 22 and 29 games are the Jets ones. Last Saturday was the Leafs and that was what was on the Shaw Guide.

As for private affiliates, I am pretty sure the CBC can make recommendations and then the private affiliate can choose to go with the game (as they do 99% of the time) or take another game. We have seen this with CHEX and CKWS in the past, and are now seeing it with CKPR.

Alebowgm, did all the territories see the Flames-Leafs game this Saturday or the Jets-Coyotes game? I ask this because Whitehorse usually follows what CBUT shows.
Thanks for putting all the affiliates showing each game. |

It seems odd that CKPR would pick the Jets on the 22nd when the top two teams in the Thunder Bay market are probably the Habs and Leafs. I suspect that they will carry MTL/TOR instead. After all, they picked the Leafs over the Jets last week.
Shaw Cable in TB does not carry any other CBC station. CBLT was carried in HD until the digital transition when it was replaced with CKPR's HD signal. |

Its a complicated situation for CBC and CKPR. CBC most likely wants CKPR to carry the Jets game, as they are advertising North Western Ontario as carrying the game which to many includes Thunder Bay. But CKPR being a private affiliate has the option of selecting the game they want to air (or if they even air the game outright, as long as they reach their agreed upon 40 hrs of CBC programming per week). Often private affiliates take the CBC's lead but it appears evident CKPR didn't do so last week. Meanwhile, although it was correctly pointed out that regional rules don't apply to HNIC, with Thunder Bay being in the Jets regional territory, you can bet the Jets want CKPR to carry all HNIC Jets games to help build their regional brand.
