I wonder if they are sending a crew down or just picking up the US feed...
I am also surprised it is CBC and not TSN2 that is picking up this game.

Jim Hughson will do play by play and Craig Simpson will do colour commentary. Ron MacLean will be the host from the HNIC studio in Toronto.

OK, so hopefully someone can enlighten me. How is it determined that CBC and not TSN2 was going to broadcast this game (TSN1 is bound to show MNF)? I thought TSN has non-exclusive rights to games on Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri and exclusive rights on Wed, while CBC had exclusive on Sat and non-exclusive on Sun... unless the two worked it out amongst themselves...
Also will we get the usual Hotstove and Coaches Corner?

CBC has exclusive Saturday night and TSN has exclusive Wednesday (during their 2.5 hour broadcast). Neither network has first go at the other 5 days. CBC usually gets what it wants, as long as it doesn't go over its cap for each team (and there is no cap for Pittsburgh or New York).
If I had to guess, no Coach's Corner or Hotstove. Probably just MacLean, Hrudey and Stock in Toronto. |

I suspect CBC gave Bell an offer they couldn't refuse to get the rights to the game. If the game had been on TSN, that may not have been feasible, but since TSN2 has a much smaller market base, it probably didn't cost all that much.

Versus is picking the Pittsburgh-NY Islanders game up over Boston-Montreal here in the US as well.

TSN2 usually airs the Monday night Versus games. But not this week, since it was originally going to be Bruins-Habs, and TSN2 has never aired Versus games involving Canadian teams.
Versus switched over to the Pens-Isles game when they announced the Crosby comeback. Had this been any other week, the game would have been on TSN2, but CBC swooped in and got the rights first. Turns out TSN2 has nothing but filler tonight anyway. |

I am wondering if maybe there is a clause with CBC's deal that gives them first right of refusal of additional big ticket games in Reg. season... TSN is contractually obligated to MNF, so it would have been on TSN2 if bell had the rights. Yes TSN2 has fair distribution, but its probably best off that this game is on the most widely available outlet.

And it is worth pointing out that at the time CBC picked the game up, it wasn't scheduled to be on Versus. They added it to their schedule about an hour later.
TSN2 didn't have rights to any games tonight, per say. I think CBC has first right of refusal on all-American games, but for obvious reasons they usually don't show many. |

Optik & Shaw customers in the Alberta/BC getting shafted once again by only getting one game tonight. CBC Edmonton, Calgary & Vancouver all showing the Oilers/Avs. I'm not dissapointed that I HAVE to watch that game, but at the very least I should have the option of one of the two other games. Both Pens/Habs and Jets/Bruins are great games too, better I'd say than Edmonton/Colorado. Not only that but both games this afternoon were only in SD thanks to our friends over at MSG...Centre Ice feels pretty worthless today. Hey CTRC, do something useful for once and MANDATE more CBC HD channels!
FYI: 5:00 PM NHL: Winnipeg at Boston -- Manitoba, Saskatchewan, NW Ontario (excluding Thunder Bay) 5:00 PM NHL: Edmonton at Colorado -- Alberta and British Columbia 5:00 PM NHL: Pittsburgh at Montreal -- Ontario-East (except NW Ontario) 8:00 PM NHL: Vancouver at San Jose -- National

The Jets-Wings game was expected for CBC to air on CBET, especially considering the station has full cable and OTA penetration in Detroit.

^^^ Also, there are a lot of Wings fans in Windsor. They could probably always show the Wings in Windsor without many complaints locally, but that probably wouldn't go over very well nationally.

Wings in Windsor is like Sabres in Ft. Erie/Niagara. Only difference is, Windsor has a local CBC affiliate in CBET, whereas Ft. Erie/Niagara are stuck with CBLT off the CN Tower. If that region were to ever get its own CBC affiliate, then anytime the Sabres play a team other than the Leafs, odds are they would get that game instead.
