Tonight's game is being broadcast by Comcast (both Philly comast & Washington)...so why is Shaw not providing it?

I am in chat right now asking the same question.
The game is on RDS though. Quote:

It looks games broadcast on RDS are considered to be nationally broadcast games, and therefore aren't provided via NHL Centre Ice. I guess any games broadcast in Canada by CBC, TSN, TSN2 & RDS (excluding Jets & Habs games on TSN's 'regional' broadcasts) are not included with Centre Ice. Since last night's Philly-Caps game was apparently on RDS, that is why it wasn't available on Centre Ice.
That sucks. I'm not going to pay extra for a french only station...you would think since it is a french only station that it would be considered a regional station, rather than national station. |

Not true at all. RDS has no effect on Centre Ice. Case in point, RDS has Habs/Senators today. Shaw has it on Centre Ice channel 353.
Bell didn't have that game in HD either. Probably due to the Comcast/NHL dispute. RDS is unaffected by the dispute. |

I was just posting what I was told by the rep I talked to about this. The rep passed on this link: http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=27197 which doesn't say exactly what the rep told me, but it does mention that along with CBC, TSN/TSN2, that RDS is an exclusive national TV partner for the NHL in Canada, and does have an affect on games shown on Centre Ice.
For tonight's situation, the Sens-Habs game is also on the Sportsnet East channel, which is probably why it is on Centre Ice. The rep I spoke to said something about games that are only shown on RDS in Canada, being not available to Centre Ice on Shaw. Anyhow, having said all of that above, it looks like Saturday's Habs-Flyers game (March 24) is not on Centre Ice via Shaw either. It is listed as being broadcast by CBC in Quebec (listed on CBC's website), but the CBC channels provided by Shaw in Calgary (Calgary & an Ontario timeshift channel) are both showing Pitt-Ottawa. The only way to see that game via Shaw in Calgary, is by RDS (the game is listed on the guide as being shown on RDS). Not sure what this all means, but bottom line, the only way to see Saturday's Habs-Flyers game in Calgary is via RDS. Last edited by mrmat4; 2012-03-23 at 07:39 PM. Reason: correcting typo |

mrmat4,
The rep you spoke to is full of it. I have both Shaw and Bell and can vouch that games on RDS are almost always on Centre Ice. The only exceptions are usually the MSG/Comcast disputed games. Shaw is just making up excuses. They often are missing games on Centre Ice that appear on Bell. It's not generally a Centre Ice or RDS issue, it's a Shaw incompetence issue most of the time. |

Thanks for the info Vumax....just curious since you have Bell & Shaw...is tonight's Flyers-Habs game available on Bell's Centre Ice? If not, does Bell provide the CBC channel that is broadcasting the Flyers-Habs game?
As mentioned above, for Shaw customers, the only way to see tonight's Flyers-Habs game is via RDS because Shaw doesn't provide the CBC channel that is broadcasting the game, and this game isn't listed as being provided via Shaw's Centre Ice package either |
