Reply I got from Radio 1:

Quote:
We're sorry you're currently unable to enjoy Radio 1 via Sirius/XM. The deal which allowed Radio 1 to be broadcast in America recently finished and has unfortunately, at the moment, has not been renewed by Sirius/XM. We're not sure if this is a final decision, so if may be worth contacting them directly to express your view, but we would like to thank you for listening up until now.

Kind Regards,

Radio 1
Looks like this is entirely SiriusXM's fault.

Default BBC Radio 1

So, it occurred to me that maybe we were all mad at Sirius but it was really BBC that wanted out...so I wrote them first.
Almost immediately I got a form letter returned and assumed that my email went to junk and wouldn't be checked. However, when I got to work this morning I saw this response:

I know nothing about anything but it almost seems like this is a CRTC type of issue? Or something on a North American scale but same type of thing. Maybe someone knows someone higher than Sirius that we could start contacting?
All I got from Sirius was the same form that everyone else got; suggesting that I listen to other stations. I also wrote to the president of Sirius as the moderator advised but have yet to hear back...
Thanks to everyone for posting info...hopefully this posse can get our station back

Nothing to do with the CRTC.

It seems Sirius XM decided that BBC Radio 1 wasn't worth the price they were paying. Best bet is to contact them (using emails posted on this thread) and let them know that it is worth it.

Just got this from Al MacNevin VP at Sirius Canada

"I’m truly sorry that we didn’t give you a heads up on the removal of BBC. This is my fault.
The decision to remove the channel was made in the US, and I’m capturing all of the feedback that we’re receiving (which is a lot) and I’ll be sharing it with them very soon. I agree, it was a very good channel, I miss it as well.
I encourage you and any other listeners to continue to send in your feedback about the removal of the channel...I’ll do what I can to share it with the programming folks in the US.
Thank you for your business, and I sincerely hope you’re able to find appropriate replacement channels among the 70 music channels we offer today.
Again, I apologize for not giving you a heads up.
Thank you.
Al"

I have been with Sirius canada since 2006 and of all the time i been with them its like Sirius in the states gave them the liscence to carry there channels and never spoke to them again. from this post it looks like they do not communicate at all and have no idea what is going on with the channels at any time. thats why if i want to get any info on any sirius channels i always go to the US website

I had a thought on this topic last night. Perhaps SiriusXM might actually look at how they offer programing and not leave it so repetitive and mundane.

People like Radio 1 as it is unlike anything else out there due to its true diversity!

I have been listening to Radio1 online since it started broadcasting using real audio stream and before that when Interface pirate radio would encode some of the shows and dump it to a winamp stream. And I have been hooked since day one as it is UNIQUE!

Now can siriusxm take not and work towards a better format with more interesting and forward thinking shows? Perhaps even contract some of the radio 1 personalities where possible to do shows.

Take note siriusxm and IMPROVE YOUR OFFERINGS, create something unique and show us that the subscribers opinions actually count!

Agreed. Years ago, the XM decade channels were much more entertaining. The merger seems to have sucked all the diversity and uniqueness out of the stations.

I have a lifetime sub to SiriusXM so I can't cancel but I seldom turn it on anymore as it just seems so stale.

Default New Contract Talks

Looks like the BBC and XM Radio are in talks to restore Radio 1 to XM.

http://www.digitalspy.com/broadcasti...sirius-xm.html

Below is the text from the link above:

BBC Radio 1 has been dropped from Sirius XM in the US after six years on the subscription satellite radio platform, but the corporation is in talks to bring the station back to US listeners.

The music station launched in America for the first time in August 2005, after the BBC agreed a carriage deal with Sirius Satellite Radio. Previously, Radio 1 was only available to US listeners over the web.

The Sirius XM website reveals that Radio 1 is no longer available on the service, but gives no indication as to why the station was dropped. Sirius XM was not available for comment at the time of publication.

A spokeswoman for BBC Worldwide confirmed to Digital Spy that Radio 1 has left Sirius XM, but said that the corporation is in talks with the satellite radio platform to continue offering the station in the US.

"The BBC's commercial arm BBC Worldwide has been in partnership with Sirius Satellite Radio to broadcast Radio 1 on their main network since 2005," she said.

"This agreement has now unfortunately come to an end and BBC Worldwide are in current discussions with the satellite radio station to find ways to continue to bring popular music channel BBC Radio 1 to the US audience. We will keep you posted."

It's hard to believe that Sirius XM would drop a station that it was still in negotiation with.

If that was the case, then you'd think they would at least put up a loop saying that because of contract negotiations, Sirius XM can't broadcast BBC Radio 1 but that they are working with BBC to bring the station back to Sirius XM rather than just saying its gone and try some of our other stations.

Default bbc radio one

i have had sirius for 6 years or more, and i listen to channel 15 bbc radio one almost all the time.

I cannot believe that they would not renew the contract with radio one, not only because of the number of british citzens who like to get a true flavor of british humour, but also there is no other channel that offers the range of music and the banter of the dj's. i am going to cancel my subscription, not sure if i will get any refund, how has everyone else done with getting any money back.

thanks

As far as getting a refund….I contacted XM last evening to cancel both my vehicles and they offered to refund my unused quarterly fees to my credit card. When I said OK they transferred me to the cancellation department who offered to reduce my monthly rates to $4/month per vehicle for the XM Select package. I took the offer for now while I wait to see if they really are still in contract negotiations.

If I would have known they would reduce the rate 30% just to retain a customer I would have done this a long time ago instead of paying full price. I guess this is why their stock prices are so low…

I got a canned response from Sirius telling me to channel surf to find the music I used to listen to on BBC Radio 1.

I replied telling them that it is not an acceptable resolution.

There's going to be a lot of Brits in Canada/US who subscribe to Sirius to get BBC Radio 1 who are upset over this.

Default Now is the time to cancel.

EVERYONE: Call this afternoon (ASAP) and cancel. If they offer any free time (1 month, 2 months, 6 months, 1 year), DO NOT TAKE IT. They're trying to give you time to get over your initial outrage and hope that you'll forget to cancel. Additionally, they are not considering anyone who is accepting the months or giving them time to not be genuine in their complaint. It is time for us to walk.

Scott Mills was dissapointed on his Wednesday morning show.

I think Chris Moyles is going to be livid when he gets back from vacation as he always liked US/CAN listeners. I hope he gets involved as I know he did a live show from SiriusXM's studios I believe last summer ... I hope he can yell and scream to get this back.

Default Moyles

Anyone see his tweet? The link he posted doesn't seem to work and I haven't been able to find anything on a google search but it sounds promising If anyone can find the link it would be greatly appreciated...
