TSN has lost it's CCA curling coverage contract to the CBC. CBC will carry draws during prime time and show all other draws on it's digital service Country Canada. That's really unfortunate... TSN fostered the development of this sport in Canada and brought it a profile. This is how they are repaid!? Shame on the CBC. Shame on the Canadian Curling Association. I actually find this practice questionable (CBC as a public company). And last time I checked Country Canada was not known for it's sports coverage. |

Hey, with the NHL lockout soon to be here, what else do you expect CBC to cover? People can only watch so many episodes of Kenny vs. Spenny.

The CBC was doing curling coverage long before TSN even existed. CBC developed the TV audience in the first place. Had it not been for CBC in the first place, no one would have thought curling could draw the amont of support it gets. I know alot of us out west have been watching it for over 30 years. That being said, I wish that both broadcasters could share the games. They both did a great job.

One would think that Country Canada's specialty license wouldn't provide for this sort of thing.

Well... I'm sure you guys are right. That's a bit before my time. But I do doubt very highly that CBC was ever able to devote the amount of time to the tournaments that TSN has devoted (ie - approx 3 draws per day / 6 days in a row). Did they do this... or did they just televise the playoffs? Also TSN has brought us the skins and other tourneys such as the Continental Cup. Anyhow, I don't believe that curling had nearly as much profile 10 years ago as it does today. People here are crazy about their curling. Just my opinion. If you go to the popular curling boards such as inthehack.com people are pretty edgy over this change.
I guess the other issue I have with this is that it's questionable that public money is being spent on this offer. Granted CBC will have better reach in some markets that may have TSN or as part of the basic cable packages.... I just find this a little bit hard to swallow and wonder if this is money well spent. Also the money is going to be used to fund another publically funded organization in the CCA which we all also support though our tax dollars as well. |

Doesn't fit if you ask me, either. Not on Country Canada.
Curling coverage on TSN, CBC, etc... good. But come on, don't make me subscribe to a travel-theme on my programming package to watch curling. |

Curling is the only reason my wife would subscribe to TSN.
She will be some upset if she can't get the prelims on a channel we now pay for.

CBC curling deal is not written in stone
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...TPSports/Other I was looking forward to TSN carrying curling, because it could potentially be broadcast in HD. Guess there's no chance of CBC broadcasting anything except Leafs games in HD. |

It would seem more likely to see CBC HD curling then on TSN HD, no?
