Looking into my crystal ball....would suggest that SUN-TV will be removed from all providers by late spring 2012. The parent company is well known for cutting its loses! Just wait and see.

The only thing that would shut down SunTV would be finances. If they can get enough paid carriage they will stay going. They lost their carriage on ExpressVu because they still had OTA broadcasting but wanted to get paid as a specialty channel. Without the OTA they have a better chance of getting paid. In essence, they're going from a category 1 channel to a category 2 channel.

You are right, they are missing a good sports talk show. If they could somehow get a sports opinion show hosted with someone like Don Cherry, it would significantly boost their ratings as there's lots of opinion material in sports alone. You do need host(s) who know a wide variety of sports though so it can be hard to find hosts who are suitable to host such a show.

Although they did not do any weather when they first went on the air, they now do have a weather forecast every hour I believe.

Thank You to 'TVLurker'

For correcting mine (and some other) 'misguided' posts here.

Come September 1st, 2011 - CKXT-DT's license may still 'EXISTS' here - but only in a limited (soon to be removed) capacity.

If SUN News Network cannot fulfill the requirements of its 'OTA Broadcast' license agreement - they will (may be in) 'forfeit' of their CRTC license agreement here.

But hey there 'TVLurker' - the word 'allotment' is actually a valid word here.
- it refers to the 'allotted bandwidth' of a Digitally 'Assigned' Bandwidth [ie: 33.0 ]

As opposed to an 'individual assigned channel' - as designated by xx.y [ie: 33.1]

Just A Thought.

P.S. why is this post still being 'propagated' here

AND

Who really "cares" !!!

Again, Just My (Personal) Thoughts - HERE.

I've just confirmed that Rogers cable in Ottawa has removed SUN from Analog 66 to coincide with the shutdown of their OTA signal. My grandmother does not have digital cable, so I have no way of confirming if it is still available via Digital Cable in Ottawa.

GOOD, as Rogers should do. They don't have an agreement in place to carry Sun News or CKXT outside of the mandatory markets and I am glad to see them playing hardball here.

Maybe it's because some people might be wondering why a TV station -- regardless of if they ever watch it -- has disappeared or may soon disappear from their cable service or the list of over-the-air channels they receive by antenna if they live in or near one of the Ontario cities that has a CKXT-TV transmitter. And -- once again, regardless of if you watch it -- there is still an interesting question of "what happens next?" As someone has already pointed out, it's quite possible others may be interested in using the frequencies that Quebecor may be abandoning, so this story could continue for months or longer.
You don't have to read this thread if you're not interested, you know.

Hmm... didn't Sun TV have something like that called the "Grill Room" before they stopped producing their own new content for a few months at the end of last year? I know some people didn't like Wheeler, but I would watch the show some nights.

I doubt Quebecor has made any friends in the industry with their heavy handed approach to SunTV programming and Sun News carriage. They basically violated their SunTV broadcast license terms and tried to shake down BDUs for carriage and fees. Never mind that watching Sun News is less interesting than watching infomercials most of the day.

I'm not sure if SunTV is less interesting than infomercials, but perhaps it is more aggravating.

Not really. Allotments and Assignments have different, very specific meanings within the Spectrum Management broadcasting database.

Both refer to 6-MHz wide channels, and neither has to do with how an individual subchannel is addressed with major and minor numbers. The database is a planning tool for RF frequency management, and doesn't really care about how the ATSC signal is arranged internally.

No more Sun News OTA in Ottawa.

Now if we could only get rid of the paper.

It looks as if Sun has pulled it's Hamilton station. Of course they're still broadcasting on the Internet. But they seem to be trying to focus now on being a category 2 channel. This gives them some chance of returning to Bell.

I still see SUNTV on 15.1 from Hamilton?

I was referring to the analog channel. I can't get the digital one in so I didn't realize it was still going.

Well they do have 1 friend- Shaw, they are the only ones who carry Sun News (aside from Videotron) and this month Shaw Direct will be adding Mlle & TVA Sports to its lineup. I would say that these two companies are getting along quite well, wouldn't you?!
