Hello all,
It's been a while since I posted in the forum. That's because I've had few problems...until now. My wife and I just bought a new house (we were in an apartment before) and luckily there was a Bell Dish with 2 Dual LNB's and a SW44 left behind by the old home owners! Bonus, especially since we did not have our own equipment (at our rental the landlords had it all set up, we just had to plug in our receivers!). So, we've moved in, boxes everywhere, of course, and I go to set up the TV. There are several coax cables coming out of the wall, so I do a trial and error. I finally find one that has signal. Only HD though. This is a problem because there is a lot of programming that we like on the SD package. So now I begin to troubleshoot. I tried moving the cable between the SW44 and the receiver to a different output on the SW44, no dice...in fact, no signal at all. I tried all sorts of combinations, some giving me signal on HD, some no signal at all. Up to this point I have not seen any SD signal at all. I was beginning to think that the LNB for SD was dead, but then I finally work out some info by using an old Chieta DisEqc 2.0 switch I have lying around. I was able to get signal from the SD satellite! I did this by taking one of the cables from the SD LNB and plugging into port 1 of my DisEqc switch, and then plugged in the cable going to the receiver. I then alternately tried the HD cable (that I knew was carrying the HD signal) in each of the other ports of the DisEqc switch. No dice. Only SD, no HD. If I plugged the HD cable into port 1, I could pick up the HD signal, but no SD signal, no matter what port I tried it in. I confirmed signal coming from every LNB this way. I also swapped out a different cable going from the SW44 or the DisEqc to my receiver, and this did not remedy the problem. There is no power converter plugged into the SW44, and at first I thought this could be the problem, but after using my DisEqc switch and it still not working, I'm not so sure, because I had that set up working at another apartment I lived in, with both HD and SD coming through DisEqc. This really is a difficult situation to be in because I have no idea really what cables go where and do what without digging out the walls, which I would like to avoid. More info: When the SW44 is hooked up as I found it (cables attached to every coax female end), the switch test sees the HD sat in port 1, but nothing else in any port at all. This is soo bizarre...any thoughts? Feel free to ask questions to clarify because I might have forgotten something. Thanks very much! Newfie_Tman EDIT: I also wanted to add that I have a Bell 6131 HD Receiver with USB HDD for pvr. Last edited by newfie_tman; 2011-07-23 at 11:04 PM. Reason: Missing Info |

Can I pick up a power inserter at a local electronics store like The Source or future shop?

No need for you to do anything but call Bell and it's FREE!
This is covered in the sticky http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=100738 and at BELL TV In the mean time disconnect all switches (Bell receivers do not recognize diseqc) and hook up your 6131 to 91 only for SD, or 82 for HD until you can make arrangements for Bell to come out. Don't forget to do a check switch for what ever changes you make. |

Hey, thanks for the help, I managed to get my hands on a power inserter and that solved it! No issues now at all, except for my surround sound, which I have posted a different thread on.
