I have been having some troubles with my Ultimate PVR. I recently purchased a Sharp Aquos Quattron TV and had a new install of a PVR from MTS. Everything works fine until I turn off the system using the supplied remote. After a few seconds the blue HD LED starts flashing and after a couple of minutes when I turn the TV and PVR back on, the PVR won't turn on (even when I manually press the power button on the PVR). The only way I can get it to work is to unplug the PVR and plug it in again.
I thought that it had something to do with the AquosLINK feature on the TV itself, but I have disabled it and I am still having trouble. MTS have now come out twice and replaced the PVR once but I have the same trouble with the new PVR. The senior tech that came out last time had never seen this happen, and thinking it was an HDMI issue, plugged in Component Cables. This seemed to work fine (although the Blue HD LED never went out). The problem is that I only have 1 component input on the TV and would like to have my DVD Player plugged in to the TV (It only has component out). This morning though, using the component input, I once again experienced the same issue. I should also mention that I have a Panasonic TV an STB in another room and have never had any problems with it regardless of whether the PVR is working or not. I have checked through the FAQs and can't seem to find anything like this. Has anyone else experienced this? I would appreciate any suggestions that anyone has. |

Astrolabe, there is a known problem with Sharp Aquos Quattron TVs with HDMI connections to Microsoft Mediaroom boxes. MTS Ultimate TV uses Mediaroom, along with Telus Optic TV and AT&T U-verse where Aquos HDMI problems have been reported.
Here's a similar thread in our Telus forum. In that case, the solution was to use an AVR. Component cables should solve your problem. It's possible the problem you had this morning was unrelated. |

Just in case your problem is not the same as mentioned by Dr.Dave, check out the following thread on IR interference. It's easy to tell by turning off the TV (or other devices in the room that may be causing stray IR)...
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=64463 Sharps are notorious for causing problems if OPC is turned on. Make sure you properly optimize the TV - link in the thread. Here's the FAQ on HDMI issues - give component video another try? http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=71112 (item 4?)

Thank you very much Dr. Dave and 57. The senior tech from MTS suggested that there might be something wrong with the TV, but everything I saw suggested the PVR (I didn't really understand how HDMI worked). The way your responses and these threads explain it though, it makes a lot more sense that it is the TV (using the HDMI protocol). I don't have an AVR yet and so I can't try that suggestion, but as I know it works with Component, I'll stick with that. I guess if I want to watch a DVD, I'll just swap out cables.
I will also be calling Sharp to ask about any work they are doing on a Firmware upgrade (I have the latest). At any rate, even though it isn't the answer I was hoping to hear, I certainly appreciate the cogent (and speedy) responses to my inquiry. Take care. A |
