Default Aliant TV New Channels Discussion

Well after a lengthy discussion with Bell Aliant today, about pretty well everything service one could think of, the agent I had talked to confirmed for me a list of channels that will be coming between Now and September (fall)

Channels are the following:

HGTV HD
RDS HD
RDI HD
AMC - HD feed and standard feed will be available, will be in the movies premium bundle.

OWN HD - Oprah Winfrey Network HD
History HD
Disney XD - HD feed and standard feed will be available
CBC News Channel HD
Teletoon Retro - standard def feed
Cosmopolitan TV- agent wasn't sure if HD feed is coming

But yea those above channels have been confirmed as far as the agent stated to me on the phone, it's also worth noting according to the agent NFL Sunday Ticket won't be available or something to that degree due to negotiation issues from what the agent found out for me.

Also no mention of them picking up Space HD or KTLA in the near future.

And some other info apparently the recent Postal strike has also delayed Mediaroom upgrades as customers haven't received their upgrade kits, so it's possible that it won't be all done until atleast late August or September.

Thanks! Don't know if I'll get AMC now or not since they are putting it in a useless expensive bundle

I did an online survey yesterday for Bell Aliant. It ranged from Fiber op slogans, to bandwith caps ets...It also had a section on possible new channels. It listed off about 15 or so, HD and SD. I was very dissapointed that a lot of these were not on the list. Most of the ones that were listed I could care less for (SUN TV HD, OWN HD etc...NFL Gameday, MLB, ) Hopefully this means that the ones already listed in posts above are done deals and these ones are trying to gather interest.

If you are like me, you switched from another service (here EastLink) to FibreOP for a one-year contract. This means they have a year to play catch-up. Make sure Aliant knows this. Once the year is up, you can review your options (including staying with FibreOP) and decide accordingly.

The biggest pain in the butt with FibreOp is that you can't buy single channels, you have to get bundles and each bundle has like one decent channel and the rest crap.

The 1 year contract really does lock one in. I see Eastlink in NS is really trying to compete though, Upgrading users to 20mbs service and introducing Multi Room DVR, However from what I read it does require a Technician visit and it's not free, even for existing customers....At least the Aliant install is free.

Hopefully with more communities coming online with Fiberop and more $$$ going into Aliant's coffers, they'll be able to re-invest it.

I also forgot to mention in the survey I took it mentioned they were thinking of launching a Local TV station and would place it on Channel One. And would cover local sports etc. and possibly include it with On Demand.

I also had a conversation about new channels when I called in to add a theme pack. I was told to expect these for sure this year:

Teletoon Retro (SD)
Cosmo TV (SD)
AMC (SD & HD)
RDS HD
RDI HD

and I think another that i've forgotten.

My wife would love to see HGTV HD so hopefully that's the one i forgot.

It's a little bit frustrating how long it takes for Aliant TV to add new channels. Last year we had pamphlet stating TLC HD was coming which we never got.

I really hope Teletoon Retro shows up soon, I e-mailed the online support about it a few weeks ago and they told me it was on channel 251 as of June 27th, which it wasn't so I called and sales had no record of it on that date. I think they need to get on the ball a little better on the channel front.

re RDS HD- if you download the Fibre Optic channel guise pdf it actually shows RDS HD in 2 of the Theme Packs. But as you noted- i was told today that RDS HD will be coming between July and Sept. I can recall hearing something similar from Eastlink and i got it a year later.

Eastlink's Multi-room dvr is crap. More like a Multi-room watch recorded shows. You can not set up recordings, delete or pause/rewind live tv from non pvr boxes. Plus they charge you for it lol.

Yes, it's there, a year late, but never the less it's there. Now if we can just get AMC up!

It is black on my guide which means it must be within a theme pack. Which one is it a part of exactly? I don't subscribe to any themes since I don't watch much TV and you only get like one good channel with 3 or 4 that you would never watch.

I don't know why I'm getting it. I have the entertainment pack, and the movies 2 pack. I wouldn't think it would be in either one of them. I was hoping a channel like that would be in their digital basics like teletoon!
