I've had similar issues...my condo is only 6 years old so should have good coax but the builders never layed out eth wiring so basically in my foyer closet is where main cable/phone/power outlets are located and that is where my Actiontec router is installed along with my Trendnet powerline eth which is connected to my desktop PC in master bedroom.

Gets really bad TV basically frozen when I'm grabbing torrents...wonder if I should try bump up 25Mbps not sure if it is a bandwidth issue or just interference.

Going to try a wireless USB adapter with my desktop PC instead...hope it doesn't affect my ping too much I was getting an awesome 5ms on speedtest.net with powerline eth

It will work but it isn't recommended as it interferes with the QoS for the TV.

MarcP - You actually got Powerline Ethernet to work? That doesn't appear to be the norm. I switched to TelusTV in May, and was surprised when the install tech told me that I couldn't run Powerline ethernet - and I almost told him to pack up prior to doing the install.... At the time I was using a Netgear 200mbps XAVB1004 home theatre kit (incl. XAV1004 10/100 4-port switch and the XAV101 10/100 1-port adapter plugged into my Telus Actiontec router). I was using the setup in my basement to run my Wii (wired for network gaming and updates), Sony Blu-Ray (wired - for firmware updates and BDLive content), and also my SlingBox HD. That setup was running perfectly prior to the switch to TelusTV. The SlingBox is the only piece of the puzzle that doesn't have a wireless option -- so I'm looking for another route to make this happen.

Alternately, I've been reading up on Wireless Distribution Systems (WDS) using the Apple AirPort Express, so that may be my only option to use it as a wireless bridge.

If you have specifics on your router, and the TrendNet powerline ethernet option -- I'd hopefully like to duplicate your setup.

Anyone else out there use a powerline ethernet setup using TelusTV and SlingBox???

Thanks!

Yes, I have two TrendNet adapters (by my main computer and my HTPC). One of them is plugged in the same powerbar as the Telus PVR. No problems at all. I can stream large files to my HTPC and the speed is really good.

I have been using NetGear 200 series ethernet over power line units to run my main PVR box for about 8 months now with no issues at all. The other set top box is hard wired to the router.

Norm.

I just ordered a discounted $99 CIS430 PVR from Future Shop that comes with a $100 service credit. Looking to try out Optik in my apartment.

I noticed this thread and now I'm hoping my own powerline setup won't be a problem. I have a pair of TrendNet adapters that I use to run from the router (in the living room) to my desktop (in my bedroom, too awkwardly placed to run a wire). I don't intend to run anything TV-related over the adapters, but this thread is leading me to conclude that it might mess up TV nonetheless. Ugh... I guess I'll just have to see?

Bump. Just to add, the two outlets into which I have plugged the powerline adapters are not the same outlets as the one the Optik router would be plugged into.

Hello All, I just got Optik over the past weekend and can confirm that it works with powerline ethernet. In fact I use the powerline ethernet adapters to connect the PVR to the Telus Actiontec router.

I use the a set of D-Link powerline adapters. I can't recall what the model is but they're really old. Note that the powerline adapter is plugged into a different power outlet than the receiver. I suspect that makes a difference.

I was at a customer's house this week for pixelization. Several techs have been out and everything tests fine, it's a newer house with cat5 phone lines and RG6 coax. We tried unplugging the powerline adapters and there were no lost packets over about 5 minutes. Plugged them in, we got lost packets and 12 video discontinuites over 5 minutes. Unplugged them, and we got another 5 minutes with no lost lost packets and no discontinuites. Sub switched his computer to wireless and has been fine since.

TELUS trialed powerline adapters for the STBs, and some techs still have them working in their houses. In the vast majority of cases, they work fine. But in some cases, they'll cause problems.

Well I guess I got lucky. It would be interesting to know why it doesn't work. I'm sure if the powerline option was approved for all houses it would open a lot more opportunities for telus optik customers.

I just had an issue using a powerline (Dlink DHP-301) device with the Bell Aliant ActionTec Router/Modem. Whenever I would plug the powerline device in to a port on the ActionTec it would kill all the ports on it.
