I asked Bell just yesterday about new HD content and I got the generic answer, like Playit Simple said so much for answering questions.

My understanding is/was that some form of A La Carte is to be made available for all Bell TV Customers later this year but as with almost all things Bell, the timescale is normally wrong.

I beleive the CRTC has said that a la carte style pricing is allowed after Aug 2011. The only requirement being that 50% of the choices must be Canadian. Can anyone confirm or refute this?

Talked to bell today and they said the marketing department is working on changing it so all provinces can get A la carte programing, no date to when.

Apparently Bell will begin carrying Discovery HD again later this year.
Unlike the former Discovery HD which only carried some of the programming on Discovery SD and Discovery World HD which is an entirely seperate channel, the new Discovery HD will be a simulcast of Discovery SD, thus offering HD broadcasts of shows shot in widescreen format (either SD upconverts or true HD, depending on how it was shot). Question? Does the 5 to 1 rule apply to HD Channels?

If the provider(Bell Media via BTV) owns 1 channel they must carry 5 of their competitors channels. I believe this rule came out around 2001? when most of Digital channels were awarded.

Not sure if it applies to HD Channels, though. I know its the 4 to 1 or 5 to 1 something like that. The CRTC put it in place to prevent favortizims towards the providers own channels.

That rule is also changing to a 3:1 ratio I believe, don't recall if it is this year or next year, but that will certainly help out Shaw, Bell, and Rogers in offering more of their own channels.

Do you have a source for that? That "rule" sounds more like a rumor someone posted once and it just wouldn't go away, and I'd just like to see something that backs it up.
