Default Channels Rumoured to be Coming to Bell TV Discussion

Just starting this thread to try and help clean up the "Bell TV 2011 New Channels discussion" thread. Anyone who wants to discuss channels that are rumoured to be coming to Bell TV should probably do it here in order to keep the other thread on topic.

Thanks, Princie1, for starting this thread, great idea. Also, I wonder if this would be a good place to discuss channels that one would LIKE Bell TV to carry, so that people can make their wishes be known. The main " new channels" thread is best reserved for channels Bell will likely be carrying, this thread a better place to discuss "rumoured channels" or those people would like to see.

Also, I wonder if one of the mods could consider making this thread a "sticky".

It would be nice to see SpeedHD and my guess City TV is launching CityNews but my guess it will be exclusive on Rogers.

How about HDTV in HD?

Ummm...is that a jab at Bell's HD picture quality, or a typo for H(G)tv?

No. The Weather Network HD will launch on Bell Satellite TV later this year.

I'm a Bell employee thought you guys would like the inside scoop. I keep seeing people saying they want more HD channels but we have the most out of ANY provider if you just take a look at all the competitors websites they either have, and I quote, "over 75 HD channels" OR they actually purchase their HD an SD channels from us we have over 100 HD channels which most of them are included in digital basic. If you guys have any questions at all don't hesitate to ask. I also just posted a thread on RENT TO OWN!!

I know Bell has the most but I would still like to see. History HD, Speed HD, Movietime HD and HGTV HD, but for sure would like to see MC2 HD and Encore Ave HD, lets not let the faithful movie pack subs out west get screwed over anylonger. Or Bell should just drop the price $2-$3/month for the movie pack west subs. Is there any rumours of any of these coming?

Quantity does not equal quality. This number is inflated by Sports Packages like NHL Center Ice and MLB Extra Innings that have 6 to 8 channels that only show 3 - 6 hours of programming a day, multiple HD PPV and OnDemand channels, and time shifted CBC, CTV, Global, and City TV stations. When most people say they want "more HD channels from Bell" they usually identify certain specality channels like Speed HD, HGTV HD, and Spike HD, and anyone who does ask for a timeshifted CBC and CTV station usually includes "because I want to see MY local news in HD."

Take 1050 and 1030 for example. They air 168 hours of programming a week and the only difference in their schedule is from 5 pm to 6:30 pm Eastern Monday to Friday when they show local news. That means, unless Bell mirrors the feed on both channels for 161.5 hours a week and only allows them to be different to show local news they're wasting bandwidth just to say they have 1 more channel.

The reason for 1030 and 1050 is when the Canadiens and Leafs are playing at the same time.

You have made an excellent post, Princie1, and have put into words perfectly what I have been thinking all along, that Bell has been inflating their numbers by counting their PPV as part of their numbers. Bell is one of the few providers in Canada that does not carry History HD, Movietime HD, Speed HD, Bold HD, or HGTV HD. Even Eastlink carries all of these on most of their systems.

Jazzyjae, if you are indeed a Bell employee, I hope you are reading, and can pass this along to the folks at Bell who make the decisions as to what channels to carry.

I have a question- does Bell plan on introducing their a la carte packages to consumers in the rest of Canada or is that just some special service for Quebecers?!

Also, any plans to overhaul their packaging system and give consumers what they want- the freedom to select and pay for ONLY the channels they are interested in?! Its the 21st century and in THIS century the consumer is king- I strongly suggest they make their service more consumer friendly or else they will end up losing more and more customers to the Internet as they switch to online services such as Netflix to get their TV fix which are more user friendly and economical.

and instead of these channels Bell gives us kids channels in HD. Most kids won't know the difference or care about the difference anyways so why waste bandwidth on the nonpaying customers.
