I have been experiencing problems with the sync time from itunes to my ipod. It literally takes days to sync just 1700 songs. Nothing fancy, just music. I do not run other programs while syncing, I have tried resetting to factory defaults. Ive download new itunes. I think Ive done everything possible but no luck. Can someone help?

What type of iPod? If you cancel the back-up when you sync, how long does it take? Is this Windows or Mac?

Its a nano not sure what gen. and Im using win xp pro. I have done about everything I could think of and read. I just deleted itunes and reloaded it. I am trying to sync now but I think it is still crawling. What is a reasonable amount of time to wait for one song to be loaded. Ive tried different usb ports. Restarted comp. Talked dirty to it, but no better than before. Losing my mind.

There have been a lot of problems in the past with the iPod Touch taking forever because its backing up so much data but I can't help you with a Nano.
If you hit the X in the message window while backing an iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad it skips the backup and goes to sync. Not sure about Nano Have you tried the iPod problem troubleshooter on the Apple Support site?

Are you converting all songs to 128kbps AAC? If so, that can take a long time depending on your computer, but only if it's a ton of songs all at once. Make sure you don't have this option selected.
Sounds like something more severe though, because nothing should take several days to sync anything on an iPod.

holy "you know what", just unchecked the convert tab and itunes took off like a rocket. Cooper, I cant thank you enough. By the way, is there a way to convert these files to 128kbps to allow for more info transfered to Ipod, in the way of more files?

This will double your library but you can
Set your ripping options to 128 in preferences. Highlight all the songs and under Advanced Create a 128 version If you do this, you will have two versions of each song. Higher bitrate and 128 version. Make sure you put the 128 versions in your Playlist that you use to sync with. see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1550

Glad to hear it worked!
If you have the time, you can convert everything to 128 AAC by checking that box and any additional songs you put on there won't take nearly as long. But that initial transfer of 1700 songs will take its sweet time, as you've witnessed firsthand.
