Update:

Just got back home, 2 out of 3 HDPVR actually are off with no HSUD for the past hour. One PVR (the one with fake power off) is now back HSUD-ing.

:: confused ::

itsingoodshape I believe the 8642 has different firmware. You can find the firmware version in the diagnostics:

After reading this new thread,I checked both my 8300 units and they have the new firmware. On the first page of the diagnostics, both units show a last booted date of 3:10 am,May12th.I am in Whitby.Previously,I do not think that I was experiencing the HSUD effect, but my hearing is poor so who knows.Everything seems fine.

So the solution they came up with to prevent it from spinning it up and down is to keep it powered up the whole time? Does it power off at night if you leave it on? I'll have to check that.

My HDDs have not powered down since the firmware update on the 12th. I have unplugged/rebooted once since then to add the Watt Meter. Others may be different... I'm not sure if it "PowerSaves" at 1:10AM like it once did, since I turn mine off (the power consumption is currently essentially the same when you turn it "off" and nothing happens to the HDDs). I'll leave mine "on" tonight before going to bed.

I got the update at just after 3am on May 13th, I was watching CSI that I had set to record earlier. The recording stopped, I briefly got a black screen and then up came a message in a box that said something like "System is upgrading the software, do not shut off the PVR during this process". I let it do it's thing. When it was over I noticed that the guide responds quicker, haven't heard the hard drive cycle up/down and I haven't had a problem yet with my external PVR, though sometimes it happens every night - other times every 2 or 3 nights so I don't know if this issue is fixed yet. At least we know that they're working on it which is major progress. I was one of the lucky one's who got the screwed up firmware upgrade back in late October so it's been a long, frustrating ride.

The latest update completely killed my external HD. I've never had any problems with previous firmware ever, with the 8300HD or the eHDD

It just wouldn't record to it anymore. The show would start to record and once it ended manually or automatically, it would hang for a sec, and the show wouldn't show up as playable recording.

I tried all the troubleshooting options. I made sure it was only the eHDD giving me problems by powering it off and recording to the internal HD. Worked fine.

I ended up formatting both my eHDD and resetting my SA8300HD completely aswell. All works well now. As for the spinning, it never bothered me much before and I dunno if its still doing it or not.

For my PVRs it seems all PowerSave functionality has been disabled. I turned my (upstairs) unit on last night at 11:30PM and it was still on this morning around 9:30AM. It always used to shut off at 1:10AM by PowerSave in the PVR firmware.

I was watching my downstairs PVR at 1:10AM and didn't get the PowerSave notice that I usually see at that time...

Ok folks....

Replaced my PVR about 3 months ago do to firmware related issues with the 8300. I rent my pvr, and thank god!

Anyways, last couple of days had some real annoying issues. Last week, stuff that was recorded and then played back with no issues, suddenly, doesn't work. You know, you click play via the pvr recordings list, and it just bounces you right back to the pvr screen.

It got a little worse this weekend, it said it recorded stuff, but when I went to play it, bounced back to the screen. URG.

So, I deleted everything, pulled the plug on the pvr, pulled the plug on the external, and gave it 30 seconds. Plugged back in.

Last night, 8pm for example, Chuck and House set to record. Shows both as recorded. House played fine. Chuck....bounced to the pvr screen. I think a few other recordings as well did the same thing.

I cannot tell if its a tuner issue, or another firmware issue. I use the Nextstar CX enclosure for my edd. It is a 500gig segate if I remember correctly.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Tried reading some of the enclosure threads etc, but they are just way too long to try and figure out. I hear a new firmware has been pushed. Once the wife is done watching her soap, I will verify what firmware number it is, and edit accordingly.

Does the latest pvr box from Rogers have these constant issues? I am fed up, I just want a PVR at this point, everything else is moot when the basics don't work.

Update 1: Yup, just checked, the latest firmware update I do have.

Update 2: Seems one of two scheduled 9pm recordings for monday didn't work. Chicago Code didnt record, yet two and half men and Mike and Molly did. Each 30 mins to Chicago Codes 1hr.
I have unplugged everything for 5 to 10 minutes. Plugged back in, and let it reboot. Lets see if this does the trick. Going to take some pics of the status screen and attach.

Update 3: Nevermind, I cannot upload a couple of photo's here. Too bad

I had been away for a week and was not aware of the update or this thread. When I got home last night I was told nothing recorded over the weekend even when it was red in the guide or someone tried to force it to record manually. I did not think much about it and I tried to watch a month old recording last night but it was not playable. I deleted it and went to another recording and it also was not playable. It then occured to me to reboot and the second show came back. I should have rebooted before deleting the first recording. I still have many recordings listed from prior to the previous time Rogers updates made them unwatchable. I will have to check tonight to see if any of them are back. It is unlikely however as they were probably recorded over by now.

viper359: If you still have the problems after you do a warm reboot (QSG) and if it "recognizes" the eHDD, then there may be an issue with the new firmware and your eHDD/enclosure. As discussed in the eHDD thread (post 1) and the last few pages of that thread, changes to firmware can change the functionality of the eHDD.

thanks 57. It recognizes everything, including the drive. I have to assume its the firmware. I have copies of the error's from the diagnostics screen. I am creating a photo album here and will upload. Here is some pics below I took of the service menu, you will notice the one pic showing the errors. I would be interested to know if those who have reported the same problem have the same errors.

You may wish to go to the second link in post one of this thread and check your signal strength and S/N ratio - they may be low. I don't know anything about those warnings, perhaps someone else does.
