The NPD Group reported Thursday that for the first time ever, more than half the handsets that U.S. consumers purchased were smartphones -- with first-quarter sales up eight percent from the prior quarter.
Apple's iPhone accounted for 14 percent of the U.S. mobile-phone market, besting major smartphone rivals HTC, Motorola and Research In Motion.

Not really a surprise. When was the last time you saw a feaurephone receive any significant marketing? Smartphones (and the data plans they come with) are the big revenue driver for carriers now, and with the increase in quality low-cost smartphones (LG Optimus One, for example) it seems likely that featurephones will soon be relegated to minimal sales.

Just ditched our Homephone in favour of our Cell phones, and Voip as a back up.
