That's all serious money you're talking about, so if there is no upside for their home market, it's a dead issue.

Dave, agreed. Though don't forget that lots of ad revenue flows south from Ontario to Buffalo stations. Our population is significantly larger than WNY.

They should have located on top of WKBW's tower and it would have been a no-brainer for us folks here in Ontario. I guess they don't care about the possible ad revenue oppurtunities from Canada, down the road. Both WUTV and WNYO carry Canadian ads.

We're all just speculating here, but if WNGS's content ends up being picked up by BDUs in the Buffalo area, then wouldn't their audience in Buffalo and resulting revenues from carriage fees and local advertising be a lot more than they could ever hope for from ad revenues targeting Ontario's OTA audience?

So far WNGS only has THIS & Daystar content. I'd doubt this content would be of any interest to the BDUs. Possibly ITV has something innovative in the pipeline for the main 67.1 channel content that would attract the interest of the BDUs for carriage.

I thought WNGS was must carry for the Buffalo BDUs.

You may be right, but I do believe that most BDUs already had ThisTV and Daystar content prior to current WNGS programing.

No, ThisTV has never been on Cable (and still isn't today). It's only been available via a C-Band satellite FTA feed in this area prior to WNGS. It will be on cable within about 3 weeks so says the owner in that Buffnews article a few posts back.
Cable has to pick it up via the must carry rule. Don't think Dishnet & DTV carry it either, but they'll have to now also. |

I find this confusing. The must carry rule usually only applies to the main channel, [as this was stated to me by WNYO], so that would mean that ThisTV is going to stay as their main channel content? It doesn't make sense that ThisTV would be their main source of programming and still be duplicated on their 67.2 channel. I think there must be something more planned for the line of content on either 67.1 or 67.2.

The BDUs have to air whatever is considered the 'primary' feed of WNGS since WNGS has must carry status. If WNGS airs ThisTV as their main affiliation then that is the station that will air and if the BDUs have that station on cable they are going to have to remove it or blackout content that WNGS has the rights to. If something else by ITV is coming down the pipe as their main station, then that is what will be aired. Who knows right now outside of ITV.

Considering the low bandwidth/quality of 67.2, I dunno if we can say they even know (or care) what they are doing with it yet. There isn't even a website that I can find so far to even ask em a question, or let em know about reception results, etc. So, I guess if they aren't that concerned with it, I'm not too concerned with it either at this point, still kinda early. |

All,
It is great to see the talk about WNGS-TV already starting! As you are all aware, WNGS-TV is now back on the air. We are currently carrying ThisTV Network. The stations ultimate goal is to put local programming back into the local TV market. Within the next few weeks we will be back on all of the major carriers and within the top tier in channel numbers as well. If you would like more information on our station, have questions about our signal or our interests in the Canadian market please feel free to reach out to us There is truly more to come! WNGS-TV |

WNGS-TV
Thanks and Welcome to the DH forum. It's always refreshing to have first hand news on a station's developments, plans and progress. Do you have a contact # , email or a website for viewers to contact directly? Can you enlighten us as to the plans for 67.1 & 67.2. Obviously broadcasting ThisTV is a temporary situation using both channels. WNGS signal at this point is not very strong into Ontario for OTA viewers. Are there plans to use the old WKBW channel 7RF tower to broaden your broadcast contour area? And the biggest question is : What is ITV? Is it related in any way to Britain's ITV or is it associated with mobile Apple iTV?

WNGS-TV,
One more question if I may, regarding WNGS status, would be approximately how long we might expect it to take for WNGS to broadcast EPG info OTA in PSIP? Or show up in some of the the online TVGuides, like Zap2it, etc. ? I know it's still kinda early, but just wanna point out, many folks that rely on OTA TV use the OTA EPG and online TV Guides as their EPG source for their Home Theatre PCs and / or PVR, to tell what's coming up, setup recordings, etc. Edit: of course I'm also wishin the same. assuming someone will pop back in here from time to time in the meantime. \/\/\/\/\/ |
