OTA: Eastern Ontario & Quebec DXing, Tropo, Odd Reception: 2011

I am picking up WPTZ RF 14 (virtual 5.1 and 5.2) and VPT RF 32 (virtual 33.1, 33.2, 33.3 and 33.4) from Vermont tonight. Mt. Mansfield I think is where they broadcast from which is well over 200km from here.
First time I have ever picked them up from here in Russell. Isn't it a bit odd to be picking up stations from that far away at this time of year? I thought this sort of long distance reception only occurred in the summer months.
