Bell Aliant attached the coiled up fibre optic cable bag to the side of house this afternoon, said they will be back to install in the AM. My year long wait is finally over.

Noticed several houses had the same cable bag attached on my street.

Install completed. Finally able to get HD and all 4 receivers on Mediaroom 2. Also got my 1216 switched for a 1232, and the 3 1200 swapped out for new units with new style remotes that work way faster.

Speed is as described 30 down in the 20 or so up. Downloaded a 700mb movie in 7 mintues or so, but it did not have many seeders.

Exclamation Slow Upload

Fiber Installed on Friday (Guys were there from 2pm until 7:30pm) working OT.

Download Speed: 31 Mbits
Upload Speed: ~9 Mbits

Calling Aliant today and having them send someone out.

They also left a $200 JDSU fiber tracer at my place, maybe they can have that back. (basically an expensive laser pointer)

Saw vistacare trucks doing what looked like fibreop stringing up around tim's on torbay road near stav drive.

Any idea if this is them getting ready to run fibreop up torbay road and into torbay/flat rock/pouch cove?

Wish they would come to Grand Falls-Windsor already or offer a high-speed plan better than 1.5mbps. Rogers sucks with their caps.

I think Grand Falls should see fibre soon, here in NB they have started rolling fibre out to smaller towns, such as woodstock, grand falls(NB), miramichi, and bathurst. All these places are about the size of grand falls(NF). I think I heard that corner brook is getting it next in nl?

Yes it coming to Corner Brook. I say they will be in GFW and Gander next year as there is enough population to make it viable.

@Moar23 Isn't High speed Ultra or Ultimate Available in GFW. You should be able to get faster than 1.5 mpbs.

I have Rogers Ultimate but between Netflix and being a gamer and always trying new games out I still come very close at the end of the month and have to watch what I'm doing... The highest Aliant internet available for me is the 1.5 mbps plan, I have no clue why they only offer that plan in my area. My sister actually has Aliant and she tried to upgrade but that's all they offer in our area .

The speed is limited by the distance of your phone line from the central office, it's a technological limit. The only way to overcome it is to install equipment in the local area and run the internet through that (FTTN) or to deploy FibreOP (FTTH).

I see, wish they would upgrade in my area already. I'd even be happy with the 7 mbps plan they have as long as its unlimited but the 1.5mbps wouldn't cut it. Stuck with Robbers for the foreseeable future.

Anyone in Corner Brook, NL have Fibre installed now?

Have heard on twitter some have it, but Aliant says September 4 is first day. Might be just for the particular area you're in.
