Thats wierd, I called earlier to tell them how good their HD and SD looked on my TV, and to ask them to hurry up and put channel AMC up there. Oh, also cancelled the promo on TMN as it's garbage and I don't want to be stuck with a bill for it after the promo runs out. You have to call and cancel the promo or they'll keep letting it go and bill you for it.

I find that is true with any of them (providers). They offer something free for a period of time and you say "yes", you will keep paying and paying. I find it easier to just say "no" from offer on set then trying to get rid of it later. I hate punching hundreds of digits into the phone to find someone that can remove the damn thing. The providers make it hard to cancel anything. If your really pissed, stop paying the bill. That works pretty quick. LOL.

No, I'm not the only one getting good quality, there was a gentleman here yesterday or the day before that posted he had just been hooked up, and he said his HD picture was better than Bell Satellite's HD. I'm sure we are not alone. Maybe I just have a really good television, but I have no complaints on the quality, and I've had satellite, both Canadian and American and I'm happy with it.

I also think it looks better than my Bell Expressvu did, could be the TV video processor improving things or the video processor in my A/V receiver, or my perception is just altered.

I find that my xbox/blueray player has a better picture than the motorola aliant box.I think its because the xbox/blueray is 1080P and motorola is 1080I.I find its a big difference!

the 1080P thing wouldn't be the case because all the HD is 720P only. my take is they are still using the same bandwidth teh IPTV on DSL is using so they are not taking advantage of the increased bandwidth on the fiber connection. although i could be wrong

meh i already switched back to rogers 100% pulled all the aliant services out all together plus your TV could only really be equal to mine as i am currently using a Samsung UN55D8000 which at the moment is still one of the best tv's on the Canadian market...

You are right they do use the same bandwidth for both DSL and Fibre. They are doing trials now with higher rates for Fibre. I mentioned before I have DSL tv SD and my picture quality is great. Fibre should be at least the same. My quality is equal to bell or cable sd without question in my opinion from what I have seen on other people's tvs. With the bandwith of Fibre I am sure they will work out these issues.

Fiberop standard definition is NOT the same as Bell Satellite. I just switched to fiber difference is very disappointing. The HD is no better than DVD 480P on most channels. I have sent them an email.

I have a sweet 42 inch Panasonic Vierra Plasma approx. 5 years old. I love it. You can't beat Pannys when it comes to plasma.

That TV resolution is only 1024x768..I have one. You are not seeing even close to HD resolution. Lots of scaling going on there.

All I know is that it's 1080i, and I LOVE the picture, both HD and SD. My stepdaughter just bought a top of the line Samsung, and even she likes my picture better than hers. I'm happy.

Not really, that's simply the signal it receives. I've seen a lot of (erroneous) posts here about formats, so here are the FAQs on that topic. I suggest people take the time to read these FAQs so that they can understand the differences between:

- what the broadcaster sends
- what the service provider does with that signal and then sends
- what the STB then does with the signal (conversion or passthrough)
- what the TV therefore receives from the STB
- what the TV then displays (native resolution).

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=73528 Native display resolution

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=87543 On Upconversion

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=76129 What the broadcaster (and then the provider) sends.

Bell changes all the channels to 720P as discussed in the last FAQ, hence a slightly softer picture due to the "lower" format and the conversion process. This "softer" picture can actually be a benefit when comparing pictures side by side or from one TV or provider to another since some people may be looking for the softness and not like that, while others may be looking at artifacts (more visible in the higher resolution) and notice that. (ie 720P may be softer but show less artifacting) That's why we have so many different points of view in this thread.

Not only that, but a large majority of the Home Theatres may not have been properly optimized (TV, STB, BD, AVR, connections, etc).
