Are there issues with the SD channels? I have the DSL SD TV (too cheap to spend $12.95 for HD) and I find the picture fantastic. I watch lots of action movies and have seen no problems. I am not a big sports guy but I did watch the NBA and NHL finals and the picture looked great. I have a 32" LG LCD with 120 MHZ. I also find the movie channels look even better than the regular channels. They seem richer and the colours seem deeper if that makes sense. From 6 feet away it looks like watching a DVD.

well aliant does dedicate more bandwidth to TMN/HBO so if those are the movie channels you are referring to then yes you will see a difference on those channels but really SD can only get so good so ya it is pretty well the same as all other providers on that market. on a side note the 120Hz does not really make a difference as the input signal from the receiver is only 60Hz.

They do (give the movies more bandwidth)? I certainly have no complaints with PQ of the movie channels in HD, but I do notice the artifacting on the HBO logo that isn't present on Bell.

Having said that I have 6 friends in HRM that have FibreOP now and I polled them and they all agree the quality is better than Eastlink. The one that used to have Bell TV said he finds it a coin flip. Makes me wonder if the quality issues are isolated to certain areas or maybe people are watching tv from 3 inches from the screen lol.
That's great news. I'm glad to see them working on this issue.

Too late for me, I had it with the poor HD quality and switched back to Bell ExpressVu...I had both boxes active for a day and tried both side by side and it's easy to see the difference in quality.

If it's within a reasonable amount of time, say one or two days, and the product isn't producing as it's advertised, I believe you can tell them to shove the deal, and the one year contract. I certainly wouldn't hesitate, what are they going to do, take you to court? They aren't giving you what you dealt for, that's breach of contract.

You have 30 days from the install date to cancel without penalty. Also you don't have to take a contract, just pay $149 for the install.

Default Action shots & Sports

Hi

My viewing pleasure is primaririly sports. Therefore the quality is important. I'm seriously considering making the move from BEV to this new service. But frankly you guys are scaring me. it seems to me that the majority on here are having quality issues on action TV (ie sports etc).

I assume those having problems have actually called and complained. I'm curious how they reacted. There is also of investment here and alot on the line. as noted in an earlier post-they want to get it right. so i'm curious how your complaints were dealt with.

I'm holding off for now until this issue is resolved.

Well to be fair I went on the other forums for Rogers, Eastlink and Bell TV and I could find people complaining about the HD quality with all three providers as well as choppiness, freezing, audio sync issues etc. So they all have their issues. Since all providers go through extensive testing before a product is released it has to come down to isolated issues that need to be dealt with but are not necessarily as widespread as we would think. Otherwise all Rogers, Eastlink, Bell TV and FibreOP customers would be complaining 100% of the time and they are not.

They must have it on display somewhere in your area. Just go see it in action and see for yourself. Turn to any channel with sports on and you should see the issues in no time. I haven't complained because I know it's a problem not an incident and I don't feel like them sending a tech out to my house to waste my time. If they can't see the issues here then I'm certainly not going to convince them. If I was seriously willing to cancel my service then I'd call but the functionality and internet speed more then make up for it in my mind.

A few people I have spoken with who have switchd from BEV and Rogers have put asside the little annoyanced because like you mentioned above, the functionality and internet make up for the other things. Myself I fund that the sports truly does depend on the feed and the event, most of the time watching hockey, football or baseball the picture is beautiful, clear not pixalated and doesn't look over compressed. I have A samsung TV, and I do run the HDMi cabling.

I'd be curious to see a list of people having issues and the brand of TV they're using since we seem to have a mixed bag of replies in this thread.

Looks likes Sports channels are the most problematic at quick glance. I'll check out a sports broadcast over the weekend to see if there are any quality issues (keep in mind I switched from Rogers and not BEV).

For starters, I'm running Fiber OP 2.0 on two Samsung Plasmas. If this is something worth tracking in a separate thread let me know and I'll gladly start one for data collection.

I may have mentioned this before, but the installers who hooked up my service mentioned they had minimal issues with Samsung and LG TVs. Other brands were either hit or miss from what they implied.

Yes, but to what were they referring? PQ or the HDMI issue?

This will probably never be sorted out. Just look at TVs. People seem to see different PQ in the same TV? What you think is a good picture is not necessarily the same as the next guy. Why do some people like the color red and others like blue? It can be very strange.

I have a friend that can find "blockyness" in any digital TV signal. He likes an analog TV much better. Go figure?

I've seen Rogers and BEV side by side, on the same TV and I like BEV better. I can still see issues with BEV but I find them the least repulsive. I see Aliant below Rogers. I have no idea if it's just the way I see things or if it's real.

The mind is a strange and wonderful thing. We all see beauty in different ways.

Nothing can be decided here on PQ. We will all pick what is considered to be acceptable losses v.s. acceptable gains (ie. - PQ, price, channel selection, features etc.).

Now that ya mention that, I think it may have been with HDMI issues and not PQ. That pretty much negates a chunk of my post haha.

I'd have to agree with you though. The quality debate is pretty subject in most cases.
