Does anyone have an idea about how much disk space is on the PVR boxes going out in NB? I like the BEV style where I can just hook in my own external HD, is it possible they could add that to the FibreOP TV boxes?

Second question, what about this scenario... You can't pause/rew/fwd live TV on the non-PVR boxes, but what if say I start recording a football game, and while it's recording on the main PVR, wife starts watching Survivor there. Since the fooball is a recording in progress, can I still access the recording from the other set-top boxes in my house, and get a sort of fake-live-TV thing going?

Yeah you can replay it on another stb it shows up immediately as a recording and you can start from the point the recording started.

@niall111, the VIP1216 has a 160 GB hard drive which will hold about 100 hours of SD video. The Aliant user guide mentions "up to 100 hours of HD video". If this is correct, then Aliant would have to use the VIP1232 (320 GB) which is what Bell uses for Fibe TV in Ontario and Quebec. Mediaroom doesn't support external hard drives. There is a USB port, but it is not currently used.

2) With Mediaroom 1.6 you can also start the recording from the STB and play it back while it's recording for the "fake-live-TV thing". Mediaroom 2.0 will allow you to pause live TV on a STB because it buffers all the video streams on the main PVR.

Default Remote PVR

Hi everyone,

I apologize upfront if this information is already available, but I tried searching and didn't come up with anything.

I see ads for "Remote PVR" which allows you to program your PVR from your PC or Smartphone. I see it in conjunction with Bell ads, but does that mean it's available for BellAliant subscribers?

Thanks,

Mike

I just had the Fiberop TV / Internet Upgrade today (Had been running on the VDSL? version of TV for the past 2 years)

One thing the tech did mention when he was going through all the changes and explaining to me how to use the mediaroom features, was if there was something we didn't like, or found was missing, was to call complain, request etc... If it's something they can enable in a future update they will try, if they are made aware, and there is demand.

@freddybeach, the Bell ads you saw for "remote PVR" were probably for Bell satellite. Bell sells the Mediaroom service as Bell Fibe TV, and they don't currently offer that feature.

Mediaroom offers that capability - Telus, MTS and Sasktel have implemented it. I'm not sure what Aliant's plans are.

Default SEARCH

On the old system, you use to be able to push menu, then search, then choose a category like movies, and it would list all the movies presently on, and ones coming on in the future. I just got 2.0 installed yesterday and have yet to find this feature. COuld someone please help me out?? Thank you.

@NO-CRTC, Mediaroom doesn't have that exact feature.

Some providers have a "categories" feature that lists all the "movie" channels in a guide. Think of it as special favourites options for the guide. The categories and the channels in each category are defined by the service provider. If and when Aliant implements this feature, "Categories" would probably be available under the "TV" menu option.

Thanks for the reply. That REALLY sucks bad. They can have it on the old software, but not the new software. That's two of my favorite features gone now that I'm moved to 2.0 Autotune was the other one. Seems they are going backwards taking out these useful features.

This is the initial Mediaroom deployment and the first Bell Aliant has done, this stuff does take time. Additionally they are at the mercy of Microsoft and what is available to them for features, unless they invest more money to develop their own add-ons (which is possible). Overall in my opinion I think choosing Mediaroom was an extremely smart move despite not having feature parity at launch. I suppose in closing don't dwell on what you do not have, but what you do have now and what you will potentially have when before there was really no hope of reaching the next level with the software.

Disclaimer: I do not work for Bell Aliant, although sometimes I wish I did in a capacity that allowed me to help out on here. >_>

The fact that we can record 4 shows at once and watch recordingss on non-PVRs trumps the little things methinks.

Meanie, do you have HBO?

Is Game of Thrones available on demand, in HD?

Just curious about the quality and selection.

As mentioned Game of Thrones is On Demand currently. This show appears to be updated on a regular basis from what I've seen.

I would have to disagree that the selection is really awesome though. It's pretty decent, but not amazing. It certainly has the potential if Aliant plans on getting rights to more content.

Being a former Roger's customer their On Demand selection for HBO/TMN has more than Aliant's HBO/TMN selection On Demand. For example you can't get Dexter and Penn & Teller's: Bullshit on Aliant's VoD service even though TMN airs these shows.

Thanks for the info.

I'm mostly interested in doing VOD rather than PVRing current shows.
