"You should be able to watch a third HD show on your PVR receiver while recording two other ones. i.e.. you should not have to move the other receiver into the room to do so. "
"Watching a program on the TV directly connected to the PVR uses both a Live stream and a PVR stream, since the program is being buffered to the PVR to allow rewind and pause Live TV." I believe your second statement is correct, and that it contradicts your first statement. Two HD shows being recorded is two streams, and trying to watch a third HD channel results with the attempt to record the 3d HD stream (buffering), which isn't possible. Hence, you can't record two different streams and watch a 3d stream at the same time. That has been my experience. What would be nice, if possible, is that when watching a 3d HD stream when two other streams are being recorded would result in the 3d stream not being buffered. I only have one box, so my question to those with two, if you are recording two HD shows on the PVR can you watch a third HD show on the other box? If so, I assume it is not buffered. |

@ doscott: On FibreOP you have a total of 4 incoming HD streams. You are able to record two of those streams at once. That leaves you with 2 streams that should allow you to watch an additional HD program while it is being buffered.
I am sitting in front of a PVR set top as I type this response with two different HD programs being recorded, watching a third one on a different channel. To answer your last question, you most definitely can watch another HD program on an additional box and it will be buffered (buffering is done at the PVR). You have a total of 4 HD streams coming into the house and can split them up however you want to combine the recordings and live TV viewings. Habskilla please let us know how you make out with the tech today. |

Well I just tested this. I am recording CNN HD, CBC HD, and if I switch to another HD channel I get a message "All HD TV streams are in use on this receiver. To watch HD: select an HD recording to stop."
I can watch an HD recording from last night while I am recording these two shows. |

I am going to eat my words and also a little crow...does anyone have any salt and pepper? You are correct Doscott. The PVR has an ingress (incoming) limit of 2 HD streams and 2 SD streams. So if you are recording two HD programs on the PVR you cannot watch a third. You need to go to another receiver to do so.
So the limit is: Recording 2 HD programs you are able to watch 2 different HD programs on 2 different receivers. But keep in mind that the pause feature will not be available in this case. Think of it like this: Pause = Record. Because when you use the pause feature you are starting a buffer/recording on the PVR. So if you want to pause one of the remote STBs, make sure you do not have a recording on the go that is preventing it. The messaging does work well here and presents the options available to you so you can make a decision at the moment. I will thank you guys though as these exercises enable us to tweak the messaging so it makes more sense. My apologies for the confusion but what did I tell you...confusing as heck |

Tech came by and it is as Here4You just stated above.
While you are recording 2 HD channels, you can't watch another HD channel from the PVR but you can watch another HD channel from another receiver. So I'm going to move around the receivers. I'm going to swap out the basement PVR to the least used place in the house. This way, when the PVR is recording 2 HD channels, I'll set be able to watch HD in the basement. |

I notied it has a new look but it looks like the one the Bell Fibe has been talking about in Ontario. My guide is greyish but menus and all are blue.

@ McPatrick: That is alarming to me can you please provide more details? How many receivers do you have...has this happened to all of them?
@ Habskilla: Good suggestion on moving the PVR to the least used TV in the house. Do you mind if we use that one? |

@here4you: i have a total of 4 recievers in the house. and the day i found out about the update i updated 3 out of the 4. a day ro 2 later i went back to the STB that i didn't update but after power cycling it more than once it was not prompting for any update. fast foward to yesturday when one of my STB's was freezing so i power cycled it and when starting back up it prompted for another update. took the update because it would have forced itself to update 3 hours later anyway and after the update i found i am back to the old firmware with the big blue bellaliant logo at startup

Hi all,
Today, the menus presentation has changed, here in Dieppe anyway. The menu seems to be less transparent making it easier to read but, I have to keep binoculars beside my chair, the text is so small. I think the developpers have 85 inch TV screen to test their work. ;-( I'm still missing the "search movies" we had before they switched to mediaroom. That was the feature I was using the most. I lost hope that this feature will ever come back. |

Hi - I'm a new member and have found this thread very helpful. In terms of my 2 cents worth: I really like the new guide - it is so much easier to read now.
I switched from Bell Express Vu for Aliant's Fibreop and love it. The staff, and customer service are a 100% improvement I do have a pet peeve with the guide though: the unnecessary Info button I have to keep hitting the info button to see a programs' original air date, episode description, etc. There's plenty of room on the screen, so this is completely unnecessary, wastes a great deal of time, and completely breaks the flow of surfing... It's doubly annoying when you hit the info button, and then the additional info isn't available anyway (about 1/2 the time) .....................in terms of this 'feature' , "less would be more" |
