Rogers applied to the CRTC for a new French-language sport specialty channel licence earlier this week. If granted, the licence would effectively put an end to RDS’s sports monopoly in French Canada.

Well it looks like they might be trying to have les Quebecois be able to watch their Bleu-Jays de Toronto en francais.

The same article is running in the Toronto Sun.

It would make sense for Rogers to do this. TSN locks up a lot of its programming and links RDS into the deal. Not having Sportsnet French was a limitation for some deals.

I don't think we will see McCown on this channel, but Jays 100% is a possibility to fill the void of the Expos. All they need are french commentators and they can just use the english feed. Same goes for Raptors which Sportsnet has programming rights to.

Also a second NHL team in Quebec would wind up here probably

Alebowgm, I suspect a Quebec NHL team would have its local broadcasts on the TVA Sports (Videotron) channel that has been approved.
