Just used shaw friends chat to inquire about the DNU in Edmonton. Rep said they had no schedule for the area. Thanks Shaw, incredibly helpful.

I heard there likely won't be much 'DNU' outside the Lower Mainland until the next financial year so don't be getting too upset other than the fact that Shaw didn't do a very good job of planning DNU and the release of 'EXO'.

I'm in the Lower Mainland and couldn't get an answer on scheduling of DNU from Shaw either.

The problem is Shaw completely underestimated the number of TVs in peoples homes and is having a hard time getting enough boxes to those homes prior to implementing DNU. They can't even give 'estimates' because the one thing they do know is; they don't know what they don't know.

Default dnu lower mainland

Just talked to a CSR, as i was interested in switching to broadband 250, and I finally got an answer as to when the dnu is supposed to happen in New Westminster, in July, which is better than what the chat people on the Shaw site had told me as "really soon" ! Now, at least I have an idea!

I got a letter dated March 8th saying my area, Burnaby-Metrotown, is being converted over the next 6 weeks. (Had missed it, thought it was just more marketing pushing the home phone service.)

Well, with Movie Central going up $1 in May, I'll be complaining if I don't have the ability to receive Movie Central HD 2 and 3.

@Sbermunk - do you have a copy of the letter? Threw mine out and I would like to have one for my files.

i've been told so many stories on DNU from shaw that i don't believe a word they say anymore. First time i asked i was told at least a month wait yet a tech shows up not 2 hours later to "upgrade" my shaw but i still don't have any new channels so i go to complain again and they now claim that they have no idea when i will get an upgrade.

Thanks for everything shaw your a great help, i love the fact that i will now get charged more for my lineup even if i can't get the new channels that you are using to justify the increase.

Shaw exo, it'll cost ya more if you can even have it but we'll charge you anyways!! what a great company

The fact that a tech happened to come along just a couple of hours after you happened to call means nothing other than it does prove Shaw is working on DNU in your neighbourhood. This is a process that takes time, they don't just throw a switch and then hope everything works OK. They are having to remove the analog service and replace it with digital service and that means providing thousands of boxes so people can still receive the services that are changing formats.

Shaw can't turn off the analog services until they have that 'certain number' of customer homes 'upgraded' before they can switch the signals. Everyone that has already been upgraded will have had to wait until that time so you aren't the only one. I don't understand what you are not understanding about this.

I live in Calgary, 'Shawville'; since this is the home of the entire company, and I have been told I likely won't see DNU completed in my neighbourhood until this fall. At least you know they are working on it for you since they have been to your home. You are going to get the opportunity to enjoy all that DNU will offer long before most of the rest of Shaw's customers so I'd say you shouldn't have anything to complain about.

I guess they are doing the important areas first, ( Lower Mainland, Vancouver) where Shaw has the largest customer base.

I was wondering if anyone would react to me referring to the Lower mainland as important.

I was going to comment that if they where doing the important areas first, then Calgary would be finished already.

I would agree that Vancouver and the Lower Mainland is likely where Shaw has it's largest group of customers and that's why they are starting there. I also think that area is where they have needed 'upgrading' for a long time anyway so all efforts are being concentrated there to get it done.

I do still think you would want to 'get your own house in order' before working elsewhere but in this case, it does seem this strategy is 'serving the greater good'(more customers anyway).

Shaw did have a very detailed schedule of when each neighbourhood was going to get the DNU upgrade. Recently this has been scrapped. We've been told that now they are going to focus on areas with high saturation. I have not seen a schedule for this, but I haven't really looked either. One thing that was made clear though is the lower mainland is screwed for a while on the upgrade.
