BTW, has anyone considered Jadoo TV? I've heard that that might be another option? I don't have it myself, but a friend in the US seems to have had a good experience with it so far ...

I complained to CRTC.

Reference Number: 521416
Industry of interest/concern:
Type of message: Satellites

Your message:
This is complaint against Asian Television Network (ATN) and its broadcasters (Bell/Shaw/Rogers/Telus etc) ATN has exclusive rights to broadcast 2011 ICC World Cup Cricket matches. This year the transmission is available in High Definition all over the world. However in Canada this HD transmission is not provided, but ATN charges $200 to $500 for the tournament. In USA the HD package is offered for $129. We feel we have been offered lower quality signal for huge price. Please investigate this.

Should we complaint to ICC or whoever provided rights to ATN too?

I have complained through e mail to CRTC too. I tried to reason with a Rogers rep, but he was powerless to do anything with the price. Only one channel with Rogers has been assigned for the PPv, channel 401 which he said was not definetly a HD channel. I called up ATN today and they said that Customer Service would be available only after 10 AM on MOnday to discuss cricket matters.

So Rogers may not show all the matches..... that sucks.... most ot Ontarians are Rogers customers....

ESPN star is the provider to ATN unless ATN is stealing the signal from Willow. I complained to ESPN too.

According to below Wiki link, ATN does have the rights in Canada.
Also that it is broadcast in HD.
Also no party has Internet rights in Canada so maybe Willow will work - maybe they can stream into regions where rights are not help by another party.
But streaming has no PVR capability, which would be very useful given the 10 hour time change between here and India.
Looks like most matches will be starting at between midnight and 4 in the morning Ontario time. I want to PVR matches and watch in daytime.
You Toronto fans should organize and show up at ATN offices Monday morning.
If Mubarak can be removed, surely we can get ATN to get this mess fixed.
They the problem, the CRTC won't solve problem in time for this tournament.

I think ATN does not have infrastructure for HD broadcast. When I called ATN and spoke to customer service rep, he told me that as per their technician they could not do it due to technical problems.
I think their technical problem could be buying technology for HD boradcast.
Then they must have thought, forget it, people will buy it anyway since no body else has rights to boradcast in Canada. Why spend money. I think at this time, nothing is going to change. I am going to willow tv and bycott ATN crap for $199 + HST= $225. I will save half the money rather then putting it in Mr Chandershekar and Rogers pockets.

Thanks. I have emailed and left a message with ATN. Also sent a message in the ESPN-Star feedback page. Will also contact CRTC. I request everyone do the same so that some progress can be made asap or in the near future.

The ATN broadcasts on Cricket Plus & CBN & pay-per-view are just pathetic. I have not upgraded to HD because of these channels as cricket is what I mainly watch.

Does anyone know if we can get any radio feed in Canada?
Cricket can be fantastic on radio, especially that they will have great announcers at the World Cup.

Since I am only interested in a few matches (likely since Canada will be knocked out in the first round I assume), I am just biting the bullet and buying the SD PPV. Since Canada's games are spread out enough, I can see what the quality is like with their first game in a week against Sri Lanka.

Hey i just called Rogers and they said it was available in both HD and SD. I confirmed with her on multiple times. and the Rogers rep said that it was $199.99 and definetly available in HD.

Can other people call and confirm as well?

thanks
